what toothed sprocket would you recommend chris
-

Kits seem to come with 16/17T.
If you need to change you can get a new 'DX cog' for £4.. -

ask sheldon RIP your questions, he still knows all.
bricklane bikes will have ss/ fixed stuff all over.
and i lied in my frist post you dont want hub spaces you want cog/ cassete spacers these depend on your hub, so bring it in and talk to the mechanic
gearing really depnds on your riding style, distances, leg stranght, and lots of other stuff

i would segust that you strip off all the derailers, put the chain on the two middle rings, take out some links so its tight, and ride around a bit, then try different gear combinations till you find the magic one

I have some spare spacers (from dismantling old cassettes) if you want to use them instead of a specific kit?
You can then either choose which one cog from your cassette you want to use, or better get a DX cog, or even a better cog which is less likely to damage the aluminium freehub body...
there is a guy selling some bits from singletrackworld
If you buy a kit i'm not sure it will fit on a 7-speed cassette...?
Some kits consist of many smaller spacers rather than just 2 big ones (e.g. Gusset after link) and I'm sure you could get those to work more easily if any fettling is required. -

thanks everybody, for all your help i was completely in the dark with this but with your knowledge and my bag of hammers im sure ill sort it
-
• #19
Er before you take to your bike with hammers, you could just take off the derailleur and pick the cog with the best chainline (which will probably be a decent gear for single-speeding with anyway. Cheapest (free) and quickest option.

i only mentioned my bag of hammers, cos where i live they wont let me have any sharp objects and this new jacket they gave me buckles all the way up the back .thanks again for the advice

You need one of the thin CNC type spacer kits - ebay search "cnc singlespeed spacer" :) - will work with any hub then or as above a bag of old cassette spacers. To find your ratio go out on your geared bike on your normal routes and stick to each gear for a loop or a few miles finding what suits you best - replicate that ratio in gear inches on your SS.
excuse me being a complete novice, but i own a 7 speed chas roberts that i want to convert to singlespeed, the converter kits ive seen on CRC and on one only apply to 8 0r 9 speed wheels .can any of yousuggest a 7 speed version.
