And now they have a bike with WHAT A CUNT written all over it parked outside in the middle of their lovely pink shirt heaven. :)

I ride a fixed gear bike, a road bike and a mountain bike, and wear clothes that do not look like soiled rags. If, however, your tone was irreverently sarcastic, and you wish to organise a little race, I would happily throw my fingerless glove down and attempt to beat you point to point across London's famous London.

fix your bike and get ready to soil your rags then.

Well, here goes...........
I couldn't sleep very well last night, so I got up and cleaned my bike. Still couldn't sleep, so I thought,
"why not go for a ride, and since the roads are quiet.....do it fixed"...Out I went, at 2am this morning, fixed. Never done it before. I sucked.
I couldn't engage my clips, so rode with my feet on the wrong side of the pedals. Braking was more of an effort than I thought, but I persevered. Still, I didn't get the hang of it.
After an hour of failure, I came back home and went to bed. 3 hours later (6am) I was up and getting ready for work. I'll have to try again, and maybe again, and again, and again.
I'm crap. I'll have to accept that for now. Good thing I wasn't spotted.

Its certainly going to be a massive effort if you're not clipped or strapped in at all, because you are taking away alot of the leverage that you normally have from these devices, its much easier once you are clipped/strapped in trust me! I would just take it easy and go at your own pace, what gearing (Gear Inches) are you using because very often braking can seem like a lot of effort if you are rolling around on a gear that is maybe too high for the road, and are you running brakeless? one brake? or two?

Also if you wanna learn how to skid/skipstop/slow down effectively it might be worth popping down to trixiedix? there's always someone down there willing to show you how to do those things, even if you're not going to do any tricks its a fun night to hang out, chat and watch other guys throw their bikes around and do some cool shit.

Cheers CrazyJames. Don't get me wrong though, because I don't feel sorry for myself. I think I do need to learn to ride fixed, but how long that takes, is no real issue. Trixiedix looks like a good laugh, but maybe just not my cuppa darjeeling. I'll tap up Edscoble or Rocksteady for tips, and if I'm still no good, then maybe I'll have to take your suggestion.

Edscoble used to be the champion of riding strapless. I'd take his more recent, revised advice.

You a tought guy? Why does it bother you thought?
You going to correct me on those as well?

I used to ride strapless (with both brakes, obv). Still found it easier and more fun than SS. Persevere!
Skidding strapless quite a lot harder, though. :)

though.
what ever you do don't start putting an 's' on the end of bicycle, unless you are talking about more than one.

GA2G - i know your first reaction is going to be you cant spin but i would advise shifting to an easier gearing when learning to ride fixed, possibly low 60s.
will mean easier acceleration and much easier braking although it will result in a reduced top speed - know its kind of obvious but it will help!
plus getting in clips and strap is bloody impossible in my opinion on fixed, although im sure everyone who uses them will say its a matter of practice.

No worries dude, i'm based in SE1 Now, so if ever you wanna come out for a roll sometime and need a hand learning to skid etc, let me know, i'll also be at SE drinks later if you wanna chat shit about skidding riding fixed and what not, after a brief visit to trixiedix.
