a few people have talked about cleaning up threads like the names to faces, so have no comments. making easier to put a face to name :)
-

yeah, and the stolen bike thread, so all the bikes and a bit of the original info is there, instead of spending hours reading all the usual gumph!

I think almost like a FAQ would be good for newcomers.
Also a sticky DIY thread for fixing/mechanics might be good.
I have a few how-to's that could go up. -

I was thinking about this the other day, I thought it would be a good idea to have a link just after the post time next to the username (like a kinda velospace page) where a user can put there bike(s) and mugshot. Maybe im just nosey ;) but trawling the faces to names board when some one talks about their bike takes away from my post reading time.
just my 2p worth- apart from that its great!

i think we need more pics of big handsome scottish fella's :p ;)

i got to say i like it as it is. quick, light, informal.
might be nice to see all the photos of bikes on the site in one place, but no point replicating flickr.
this is the place i come to talk about FG, check out bikes and the people that ride them, and hopefully get in on some decent rides via, and bike-related events to boot. so for me it delivers. and there are other sites for other stuff.but vb, perhaps the site is like a bike to you and therefore demanding constant tweaking and upgrade :)

this is kind of silly if people want to link to velospace, flickr, etc they can do so on their profile page which is just a click away

I think the site is lovely as-is. :-)
I do have one suggestion, both for revenue (I know thats not what you asked for!) and a damn nifty tool itself is this auction watch gizmo at retrobike - I've found it an easy way to search across multiple global sites, and the keywords are all there for obvious stuff.. $£EURO?
The fixie FAQs are already there, and I doubt there are many london-specific things to add. The marketplace would be good for local suppliers (dealers?). -

@prav, that feature on retro bike auction watch is a great idea. i used to use it quite often, but would be better on here for the searches we are more likely to do.

"well.. D'uh!" I use the little box and type what I need e.g. "fixie fakenger gay retro emo spandex love"

flickwg this is kind of silly if people want to link to velospace, flickr, etc they can do so on their profile page which is just a click away
Not that silly. You'd still upload your photos elsewhere... but what if using trickery of web stuff I could pull it all together so that when you see someone on a red Gazelle, you can go to the gallery and say, yeah that one... and know who you've seen.
At the moment the stuff is out there, or you ask and other people go and answer if they know. But if the stuff is out there, why not bring some of it together to make it all easier to find.
Same kinda thing with the stuff people make and do. We know that smeear sells hats, but we're regulars of the site so of course we'd know. If someone new came and was interested in buying stuff for a gift for their partner, how would they know smeear sells hats? They could delve around the classifieds part, but what if there was a list of people who made stuff, sold stuff... the actual outlets/shops. It would still link off to their sites for the order fulfilment and payment processing, but we'd have helped give them that business which helps them stay in business.
It's not about replacing stuff that is elsewhere, it's about pulling it together somehow for the advantage of all.

I know there are lots of threads, and we are always helpful, if not exactly welcoming 24/7, but maybe when newbies sign up, there should be a FAQ page which comes up, which points them to threads, explains how to do searches, explains chainlines etc and so forth so we don't get the constant new here, looking for bike, must be cheap, what do you recommend discussions.
Maybe we need some sort of questionnaire, a bit like the info given at velospace but with some sort of 5 star rating so people can see what bits overall the forum use/like/avoid.
Like the idea of cleaning up some of the threads, like face to bike, and so forth, not sure who'd do it, or how long it'd take and also how often it would be updated. Also like the idea of linking things, that we as indivduals put elsewhere on different sites, back to the forum. The idea of having forum approved and used suppliers, scott not scot, smeear, freshstripe, roberto appeals as well.
Even though I think the forum/site is really easy to navigate and find stuff, lots of people seem unable to do so, so there might be a case for making shit really obvious, different font, bold, etc,
Hope that helps, will have another think and post later on -

Looking for ideas that might help bring stuff together and make finding stuff related to fixed gear cycling in London easier to find, more accessible, and the scene stronger.
Ideas I've had include:
What do you think would be a good addition to the site and offer something valuable to the community as a whole.
Even with the ideas above, it would be good to know what level of interest exists in getting some of that stuff.
Basically, what can I do to help fill holes or bring stuff together? And what ideas do you have about how to use this server and domain to help the community as a whole get stronger and the hardcore scene grow?
