Don't some of the guys on this forum have that fork?
-
• #3
Looks like Cannondale's Lefty with some extra metal..
-
• #4
make that HEAVY metal
-
• #5
Yeah but imagine when they improve its version - the USE Alien seatposts are lighter than some carbon seatposts from other companies!
USE and Cannondale are working together for a little while, who knows if in the future they won't buy USE like Sram did with Zipp?

might stiffen up the suspension when u apply front brake
and it has a massive steerer too -

briankwan might stiffen up the suspension when u apply front brake
and it has a massive steerer tooNah it doesn't the whole point of it is so your suspension doesn't dive or tighten up when you brake. I love the design though, pity they don't make it anymore.

those have been out for ages, it doesn't dive under braking not as heavy as you think but the damping is rudimentary and not a patch on a fork from rockshox marzocchi or fox.
i wouldn't fit it to any of my bikes even if you gave it to me. -
• #9
Yeah, I have had this fork for about 4 years now. It's sweet, doesn't dive when you brake, but is a bit weird to do no-handed with...

I was at the bike show when it was launched in 02. the rep was giving us the chat, and it was a nice looking fork and all that but £800 (+special hub) at the time meant it wasn't competing with the other 80mm travel XC forks.

Yeah, it's a load of money, I got mine on eBay one night when i was really wasted. Got it for £300 with built wheel incl.

Roberto £€$ Yeah but imagine when they improve its version -
I think they stopped making this fork a while back (?)
[cite]the USE Alien seatposts are lighter than some carbon seatposts from other companies!
Neally all carbon seatposts of a specific design weigh more than their alloy counterparts.
For example alloy USE Alien seatposts weigh less than carbon USE Alien seatposts.

Easton EA70 ain't heavier than alloy ;)
but you're correct, so many "carbon" things are just a wrap over glassfibre or alloy

RPM Easton EA70 ain't heavier than alloy ;)
EA70 is alloy ?
Is my internet joke detector failing again !!??
RPM but you're correct, so many "carbon" things are just a wrap over glassfibre or alloy
Yep, carbon is used more of a sales tool than something to really improve performance/weight. A quick wrap of carbon over alloy, double the price, job done.
But . . . even those products (especially seatposts) that are genuinely carbon (not wrapped) will usually be heavier than their alloy equivalent.

[/quote]Merely a slip of an A for a C.
EC70 and EC90 are light carbon posts

Yes, you are right the Easton stuff bucks the heavy carbon trend, their carbon parts are the best out there, they do it properly.

i have an EC90 post, even the clamp is carbon, don't think i would use one if i was a pie eater though, it weighs less than a ballerinas fart.

MrSmith i have an EC90 post, even the clamp is carbon, don't think i would use one if i was a pie eater though, it weighs less than a ballerinas fart.
Easton carbon is about the only carbon I would trust under my (giant) cock'n'balls combo.
The EC90 (CNT) stuff is rock solid.
I have alloy posts (NewUltimate/Tune etc) that weigh a lot less than the EC90 and have never had any problems, but I am sure you are right that a fat bastard who likes to repeatedly jump down 2 foot drops whilst keeping his weight on the saddle should expect a few shards of carbon to show up on the x-rays at the rectal ward of his local hospital.
If you want a super duper light post that won't end up killing you, I would go for an alloy post with a snap 'fuse' like Thomson Masterpiece, New Ultimate or KCNC, if you ever do managed to break one of these posts, they are designed to fold in such a way that no sharp parts stab you up the bum.

Haha, do we have enough junk bits for an "Ebay bits bought pissed" thread?

Bought while drunk:
I stupidly paid £40 for some 20in wheels for my BMX.
They had about 64 spokes! So they look amazing but weigh a ton and had the most knackered hub & bearings ever.
I'm still a little embarrassed. -

I have had a few of those on various mtb's and they're a great fork considering the internals - if you put lefty technology together with that anti-dive you'd have an unbeatable uber "fork"

Most scooters have a front end like this.
And there have been many bikes such as whyte with them too.

i wouldn't fit it to any of my bikes even if you gave it to me.I've heard they're very flexy and not very well controlled.
Choccy...
Ok this might be a bit "off topic" as it's a SS/fixed forum but anyway this is quite interesting and also looks insane!
