If you have a spare £40 in your life - you could buy any spokes you wanted and get them powder coated brown at somewhere like Armourtex.
You could even do a very decent job with auto-spray aerosol if you are handy with sanding paper and primer.
If you go the Armourtex (powdercoat) route and are considering a brown colour scheme - they charge per colour, so you could gat a few other bits and pieces in brown if you wanted for no extra cost.

'Not nearly that vain' I would consider a self negating statement. :)
If you cannot afford the powdercoating, go rattle can !

Hey all
I'm building my ultimate hipster ghetto bike and am getting wheels built, hopefully by dogsballs if he's willing to commit crimes against style and taste.
Got a set of gold Phil Wood hubs from esbee (thanks) and picked up a set of Velocity Deep-Vs (yeah I know...) from BLB (I know, I know) but I'm having a hard time trying to find gold spokes
Helpful fella at BLB mentioned that Dia Compe might do gold ones but can't seem to find any online. Had a look at Sapem and Halo's websites but they don't seem to either.
Anyone got suggestions as to where to look next?
Thanks for any help

Dia Compe had a limited ed set with gold spokes - don't think they actually sell them separately.
Whatever you do don't get some shitty ano ones - they'll just look naff. Google some jewlers in hatton garden and get them to give you a quote on getting some gold plated.

Riiiight, that makes sense. They are pretty rude. Thanks for the tip on the jewellers though haha, maybe I'll have a snowflakes of getting something like this going:

Remember that bladed spokes might not fit through a standard drilled Phil hub (depending on the width of the bladed section).

^ this.

^ just file out the holes ;)

Ohj and that spoke link reminded me, you should sell the deeeep veez and get some Edge rims.
-

CX-Rays are 2.3mm wide for just this reason. Most hub drillings are around 2.5mm. Those Pillar spokes are 2,2mm for 1422 aero spokes, and 2,0mm for the pricey light ones ($10 each coloured).
So no reason not to get them then.

• #21
Maybe file the holes out just in case.
-
• #22
Disclaimer: that was a joke, do not file out your gold Phil hubs.
Maybe.
I can't wait to see these wheels. Are the rims gold too? Please let them be gold.
-
• #23
I would. Plus it'll make them lighter.
CX-Rays are for pussies. The man wants a bling wheelset. its got to be the Pillar Xtreme Aero's.
-
• #24
Haha yep the rims are totally gold.
Imma gonna rip the guts out of an iPod shuffle and rig it to a sub woofer in the top tube to totally blare out Dizzee Rascal and Skream whilst I ride.
Thanks for your help everyone, LFGSS FTW.
Decided to get Phil Wood spokes in silver for a £1 a pop. Seems a shame to have spent the price of a gorgeous complete bike from Rih on a set of hubs and not suspend them with something of equal quality.
Also $10 a spoke is a lot of fried chicken I could be eating and although I'm totally playa, man's gotta eat.

Those extreme aeros are just extremly light, not extremly aero (shite name). The Pillar site lists some fat 3mm wide spokes. Get some proper gold Ti blades on your wheels I say.
im looking for brown spokes and brown brass nipples, state side any one have any suggestions? i found doubble butted dt swiss in black for the back wheel, need brown for front. high phils to deep vs for length. cheers.
