It's been done before by many a flat lander but the trend went to freecoasters instead as there were more tricks available.
That said if you want a quick test before hand to see if you like it just use the existing bmx hub as a suicide. -

IF you really want a set up to beable to do loads of tricks on a bmx get a freecoaster. Hub KHE do a new one which is meant to be really sturdy too.

I see but whats the difference between the freecoaster and a fixed gear?
Both can peddle backwards, but does the freecoaster freewheel aswell?
Ive got my old racing BMX, according to wikipedia its got the wrong geometry for a trick bike

Umm I thought a coaster applies an internal hub brake when you pedal back, and freewheels if you stop pedalling... like some dutch safety bikes have. We all know what a fixed wheel is, i.e. not the same.
I've heard that some BMX racers used fixed back in the day but I'm not a luminary of that world and couldn't confirm it. Would make sense though, having lots of control over your drive wheel.
Bet there's someone here who will give the lowdown when they spot your post though...
EDIT/ Doh now I watch the YouTube above. Seems a freecoaster (diff from a back-pedal brake I mentioned above) is about as far away from a fixed-wheel hub as you can get, since you can coast in both directions. -

Coaster brake has a brake when you back pedal. A FREEcosaster dose not. They started off as people taking the brake out of a coasterbrake hub and filling the gap with washers.
BMX racing never had fixed rear wheels to my knowledge. BMX racing would be hampered by having a fixed rear wheel. BMX means Bicycle motorcross and originally there was quite often alot of riding through mud as well as over obstacles round a short circuit.

Ok I accept that I may be talking our of my arse. Well I'd like to try it! And fall off a lot I guess. I suppose it would be difficult to launch off humps without being able to stop pedalling.

Some BMX racing for you. Pretty exciting IMO.

yes those vids are ridiculous but what you have to remember is that they are most likely brakeless as well.
simple explanation of a coaster is you can travel backwards without pedaling, which if or when you ride one you will realise is much harder than it seems. when you "fakie" (go backwards) your bmx pedaling back gives a fair amount of resistance and can aid balance, same with simple tricks like 180's riding with a coaster means relearning lots of skills. also the gap in the pick up of the cranks is horrible on a gd coaster your talking about 1/4-1/3 or a crank rotation.

I was thinking of converting one.
Has anyone one done it?
I'm just thinking of the tricks i could do, so havent considered any problems yet.
