i broke a tooth on my old single speed, but it only had 12 to start with , so there was no meat behind the teeth?

Perhaps you ride too hard for 3/32! When the chain's tight the teeth are under lots of pressure. That's why BMX's are 1/8.
It was a cheap sprocket too so there's always the chance something could go. At least you got to it before the chain came off...
Or maybe the tooth fairy? Put the rest under your pillow. ;-) -

yeah and especially on geared bikes it happens all the time to poorly maintained freewheels/cassettes. that's when people's chains start slipping all the time. i've seen loads of them.

Yeah, I've busted quite a few teeth off various bikes, usually freewheels though, not track cogs. Your chicken legs are just stronger than you think or your maintenance skills lack a certain something. :P

the chain was cleaned very regularly, though i probably should've changed it a week or 2 earlier. don't think coming down muswell hill the other day did it any favours :O

how long did that chain last you?
my 1/8 shitty number from 4 months ago is all shit and rusty from the weather now. and yes i do clean it and lube it. -

went up muswell hill for the first time last week. that hill deserves a bit of respect - really drags on.
never had problem with losing teeth off the sprocket. just the chainrings.

i can understand chainring as you can bump it etc, but a sprocket is way weird. jonny, i was struggling by the bottom as my legs started to cramp from skidding on the way down.

few months i think, hard to remember with number of bikes i've gone through. -

dogs, never been down it but can well imagine. road brakeless down highgate hill the other day and keeping the speed down was hard work. fun though, but wouldn't want to do it all the time like you.

not bad, as i'm riding 65"
weird as, but i replaced the chain on my commuter/bash bike on the weekend (as there was slack in the chain even on the front chainring). at the same time, i thought i'd re-build and re-pack the bearings in the rear hub, when i took it off i noticed a tooth was missing on the sprocket! WTF!! it is a cheapo 3/32 18T that came with the langster wheels, but breaking a tooth?! the others looks OK, with a bit of wear, but nothing substantial.
anyone seen the same?
