don't know if i have any rituals, but i'm always pointlessly and irrationally careful when i ride down any stretch of road where i got a puncture before..

my only superstition is to pump my tyres to 120 psi min and skid the back tyre to death quick enough to swap it out so i don't get punctures.

I have a japanese buddhist charm under the saddle and a virgin mary plaque from my hometown on the head tube. Hasn't done me any harm so far

I always ride carefully after i fall off. It passes for common sense in most people but not me.

When putting on pairs of clothes items, such as shoes, arm warmers, track mitts, etc, I always put the left one on first.
Saying that, this is relevant to every item of clothing I put on, not just cycling!!

call me crazy but I always ride with a brake, dunno what's wrong with me, but I just don't feel "safe" without one.

Ah-ha! I did see a black cat this morning, and it smugly looked at me from within its warm fur coat as I splashed my way to work - that was shortly before my second puncture of the day (so far).

new tyres dude, seriously. don't know what you are riding on but that is just an unfeasible amount of punctures.

sounds like contis?
Get some Bonty hardcases. No punctures in a year. Keep on picking the glass out of them though

Tyres have almost zero wear (apart from lots of gashes from glass etc. now)

I know it's partly to do with the route i ride, an old railway track that's been blacktopped but attracts the underaged drinkers of Liverpool who then smash their bottles on the track, but I've never had it this bad before.
I do try to pick the glass out regularly, but from another thread on here loads of folks raved about the conti's and with them being kevlar I thought there would be few problems. Now i know different. -

different folks different strokes I guess

Wet glass cuts much better than dry stuff. Chrisw that is ridiculous! You need a new route perhaps - stick to the roads till it dries out?
I would switch to Schwalbe Marathons, then Bonti Hardcases, then onto Spec. Armadillos, then try those solid rubber tyres, then rejoice for Spring will have sprung upon us. :-( -

When choosing cycling attire I find it awfully lucky to wear the tightest jeans possible with an "ironic" false mustach iccio.Add to this a crisp, colourful cycling cap and I'm sure to have a catastrophe free day.Good luck chaps!(and women).

I own a helmet but never wear it. But I won't throw it out either, just in case.
-

I rode without a helmet for years; never worried about it. Now I've been wearing one for three years (my girlfriend asked me to) I'm terrified to ride anywhere without it. I just know I'll come off, bang my head and then there'll be the insufferable "I was right" attitude from the gf (now wife)

what just in case you crash and need to go back and get it!
First, a short tale...
Riding my usual commute today I got a toot from a driver, his passsenger was giving all sorts of angry looking arm gestures. I thought to avoid eye contact having just nudged in front of them coming through a junction. This guy had however given me loads of room on the road so made me think. A casual glance back at the rear of the bike and I noticed my trusty rear light had parted company.
I returned sheepishly to the junction just in time to see my light get catapulted off the road as it was driven over.
Bad start to the day you may think, so did I. On closer inspection, despite a couple of scrapes the light had kept its shape and still functioned perfectly. At this point I gave a light chuckle and pondered how lucky the light had been. 12 years old and the cat-eye still had some car-defiance left in its plastic shell.
Later this evening I suffered a puncture, downcast I duly replaced the rear tube only to get back on the bike and find the front flat too. Anyway, finally got this one repaired too (in the warm lobby of a nearby sainsbury's).
That's 4 punctures in a week, and 5 since the start of the year! If I was superstitious (and I'm not), I'd be wondering where it had all gone wrong. (EDIT: another 2 punctures this morning takes it to 6 in a week. Can anyone beat that?)
Did my luck points for the day all get used up with the light incident?
Now then,
What are your cycling related superstitions, lucky charms, or rituals?
