The rims I can handle but destroy those fkn tyres before they make all your penises floppy and turn all roads to black ice.

Being generally ignorant and specifically ignorant about road tyres can you tell me what makes Contis so terrible, are they very sketchy in the wet or something ?
(this is not me trying to argue or defend continental tyres, like I said I know very little about what it good and what it bad in the world of circular rubber - a genuine question from a Conti owner who is looking to get something new/better)

How am I doing ?
The 'too small sweater' is actually a normal sized sweater, it is what is in the sweater that is causing the topological/sartorial distortion.

I don't get the conti hate either... I thought they were way better than Rubinos I've used before.

I use rubinos, zaffiros and conti gatorskin folders. I have to say I don't like the way the gators handle, theyre way way too clingy in the dry and all over the place in the wet. Zaffs make nasty noises when you skid, rubinos seem just right for me, nice grip in the wet and still predictable to skid in the dry

It's a form of rubberized xenophobia. A lot of people based in the UK seem to want to distance themselves from all things Continental, whilst embracing lowest-common-denominator tat from The States.

.I found that they lacked much grip whether wet or dry and never lasted all that long. Like fc9k, I think rubinos are the best I have tried at the moment.

400k and 4 punctures. That's reason enough to hate them. These aren't fscking race tyres or tubs designed for track racing! I've always stayed away from them on the advice of my LBS guy but must have bought these super cheap.
It's not just bad luck either.. I can see the pieces of glass go straight through the center of the tyre. Any other tyre the glass would've been knocked off next rotation.
Anyway, I put the old cut up Rubino and thin as fsck Hutchison back on and had no problem today, even though we had two other guys puncture. -

Done 3000 miles with 1 puncture on my GP3000's, and that was caused by the rim tape wearing through and a spoke puncturing the tube.
Lucky I guess.

(fyi, its the toilet at brick lane bikes. walked in there, and immediately started laughing. kind of reminds me of the upstairs room at re:cycling.)

i never had much of a problem with gators till the last three weeks, when i got 3 punctures, again, glass straight through the middle.

Is that 400,000 miles ?!!!
Are you saying you had a puncture every 100,000 miles !!
To me that's pretty good going :)
Or is that 400km ?
If so, maybe that is not so good :(

hippy: 1600 meters or thereabouts.
Oh and for the record my gatorskins (gatorSKIN) was ok for about a week, then got 5 punctures in 4 days before giving up and getting an armadillo. 1 after a couple of days, then 2 on the cambridge ride, and 2 on the way in to college the next day. Maybe i just managed to run over every single sharp object on the road during that time... havent had any trouble with an armadillo so far. Oh except falling off.

damn! ive never heard of an armadillo just plain falling off the wheel - bad tire change job or something? sheesh.... (jk)
