Beautifull bikes with a long history. Uncountable world, olympic and national titels on their bikes.
Did you go to their shop in Amsterdam? Bikes are deffo not cheap but worth every penny. Every bike is hand made at the workshop in the heart of Amsterdam. but usually they all go to Holland unless you get the chance to pick on up from eBay. You can still have one made there as well btw.

I did Jos, the one on Westernstraat. Unfortunately it was closed so just looked from the outside. A beautiful 531 fixed TT machine in the window and about 5-10 track bikes hanging up. They are beautiful, craftmanship looked top notch. I figured they wouldn't be cheap. I'll dig out my pics at some point.
Went to a couple of other bike shops but that was the best by far. Saw a couple of fixed wheels in town, including a nice chrome track frame. The couriers all seemed to be on road bikes though. Suprising beacuse you think Amsterdam is the perfect places for fixed riding. I assume there are some nice ones locked up inside away from all the bike thieves!

Not really, dutch people tend to go more for practicality

It always chafes a little when you see a bike that's like the super-yummy version of your own...
(Mental note: must save to chrome forks...)

Honestly, i don't think european cities suffer form as much thievery as we do. Disagree if you will but the attitude to cycling is different. Where else can you leave a bike free-locked outside a gallery for, resting on it's kickstand.
Maybe it was a real dog of a bike by Amsterdam standards.

copenhagens the same, you park your bike and walk away? its a strange feeling, but when you get back its still there

but they are generally old sit up and beg type bikes. you don't see anything nice free-locked. but you are right the attitude is different. i felt kind of skanked coming back here. i then watched that video about Copenhagen and suddenly had the urge to move!

London is fucking dreadful for bike thievery...
people will cut your wheel away to get your bike, they don't give a fuck.ahh i feel better now :)

Amsterdam is easily on a par, if not worse than London for thievery. Man it's rife! My missus has a crap old beater and someone tried to nick the front wheel the other day! As well as the brake pads, which they did get away with.
If you leave a plastic bag on your saddle it'll most likely be gone when you get back.
I have three bikes and even the beater resides in doors.
As for RIH. Top bikes, I think he quoted me about 1500-2000 euros for a track frame n forks. Can't remember exactly but wasn't cheap! Nice though.

Was in there yesterday, shop is pure porn. The guy who makes them is the third generation and is training his son to follow. He pumps out 125 bikes a year by himself! Proper sweet little setup with luuuurvely bikes. An 853 track/road frame will set you back about 1600 euros, with custom choices in every area. Well worth a look from anyone wanting a truly unique frame! Expensive but i think worth it.

ive seen quite a few couriers on fixies (cinelli vig. was one example) and loads of the shops have bling fixies in the windows... Looks like it might be coming...

I have a rih, and there are about 10-15 other track rih's in the city that I've seen,
the fixed 'scene' is going to boom this summer most probably. When I started to
get into it about a year a half ago it was very rare to see a track bike pass by, now
i see like 3 different ones every time Im out. -

Austrian or not, its still porn.
Though to put matters straight, any chance of the Dutch invading Austria and doing a reverse-Adolf?

Werd, good idea, going to bomb that shop, war against austria this summer!
On the real, the quality of the dutch ones looks so much better. On an other note, there's a track rih for sale on a dutch site, sz 45cm for children/tiny woman's, it's 325 euro's.
Has anyone ever come accross RIH bikes in this country. Was looking at some track/road/tt beauties in Amsterdam last week and just wondered if they ever make it over here??
