It hasn't been mine for that whole time, but I always seem to end up with old cast-off phones. Have to deal with technology all day, don't want gadgets on me really.

Sparky The speaky part of my phone has broken, although the texty part still works. What sort of world do we live in, where a phone only lasts four years?
Does anyone have a cheap phone for sale?I could lend you one until you got one. Have spare Motorola here..

Thanks Hippy, that's a kind offer. Whereabouts are you?

I've got a Nokia 6630 sitting in a drawer - Orange pay-as-you-go, no SIM card in it just now. Hardly cutting edge, but it works well. I use one myself. Feel free to make me an offer, if you fancy it.

No idea how much these things are worth to be honest. What do you want for it?

Aw, I was hoping you'd offer an amount I could retire on. :-) 35 quid would do the trick, based on what they're going for on eBay. You'd have to pay postage too, cos I'm far away. I reckon I've got all the bits and bobs that came with the phone somewhere. Have a think about it. No rush if you've got Hippy's phone to tide you over.

£4.95
I was in oxford street last week and . . .
Carphone whorehouse and phones-for-you (and I suspect others have the same phone) do a couple of very cheap pay as you go phones, one is £4.95 - yes that is no spelling mistake under five quid.
The only thing is you must also buy a £10 top up card at the same time making it £14.95 - but you would have to buy a ten quid top up card anyhow if you want to text/phone.
It looks quite acceptable too, felt good in my hands and is pretty slim.

Maybe you'd be better off with Tynan's suggestion. That would save me going to the post office, too! :-)
