i think that this sort of thread takes away from the fact that people are riding fg/ss
When we put up stereotypes like this we help no one
I admit that i always fall into this trap and have done it myselfbut just ride

It's all about making your own bike out of the components you found in the garage. If you bought it as a fixed...it doesn't count! Until it has your blood on it, it still belongs to the company you bought it from.

It is niche anyway though, not that i don't agree with you flickwg. So i guess MrSmith also has a very good point.
Why don't we all ride Fuji's?

couldnt have said it any better
Bollocks.
not taking anything away from maunufactured fixies (i have one) but nothing beats the feeling when you build and ride your own from what some people would class as old junk.

what really gets me is singlespeeding mtb'ers, i ride a singlespeed mtb but i just don't understand why you have to have the following:
a load of other ss mtb mates that you ride with but not with 'geared' people.
a witty sticker on your bike saying 'one really nice speed' or 'one fucking speed'
a stem top cap that takes a beer cap, the cap must be from some obscure american micro-brewery
a surly hipflask with single malt in it.
your bike is either some 'shonky' conversion or from a niche microbrand
you must have square taper middleburn cranks (even though lighter/better/stiffer cranks are available)it's like there's a handbook, How to become a singlespeeder in 3 easy steps.
remember kids it's just a bike with one gear.

a dekerf is a nice bike, really like the pierced stays. it's not the bike it's the singlespeed sheep that bother me.

"i love you!"
so what about hippy? don't you love him anymore?
i can't say dropping a boorish antipodean for a supercilious tory boy was much of an improvement.young love can be so fickle.

Bike
Hammo Following on from an earlier thread, what stereotypes do you associate with each bike brand, ie: Condor, Surly, Bob Jackson, Paké and the like.
Just for fun mind....Bike's are for gays.
