Getting the Jitters...

  • I can't seem to place the order, if it was second hand i'd do it in an instant but even after a bonus from work, a christmas of measuring every part of my body, my other bikes and sneakily doing it in shops, I still can't part with the cash for a steamroller. It is the bike i want, i think, I'm just unsure of the crotch clearance. On paper it should be ok with shoes on as every other measurement adds up but i've only had compact geometry 56cm frames. Someone put my mind at ease, I'm going through potential frames by the second here.

It's just a lot of money, i'd be happy on a Condor Pista but can't afford one of those unless it was second hand and people seem strangely unwilling to part with them.

Ignore me, i'm going for a walk down to the Condor shop window to calm myself.

  • In hindsight, i realise this is a minor problem and not worth a second thought.

  • track bikes with high bbs and trad geo = higher top tube = less standover for a given size compared to road frame. so people generally size down for track.

question is, how high is the bb on a steamroller?

  • just get the pista F + F , it's only about 100 more isn't it? what's a hundred quid? 2 tanks of petrol? a nice meal out?

  • steamroller f&f £300 from wiggle? with £30 credit note= £270
condor pissa £449 frame only with h/set..

  • what 30 quid credit note?

i thought the fork came with the Pisser frameset... i'm sure it said it did in last years catalogue.

  • 56 steamroller is genuine 56 c-t.

bb drop 70mm, well that's quite low for a track bike.

buy with confidence, if that's your bag.

  • RPM steamroller f&f £300 from wiggle? with £30 credit note= £270
condor pissa £449 frame only with h/set..

Yeah it's this that is the problem, £30 of stuff i could use. I have wanted a steamroller for about 4 years and haven't had the cash. But now i have, i'm tempted by other things. Stupid money!

Someone sell me either second hand, i'll buy them for sure.

  • money sucks.

will the steamroller be better than what you already have?

will it ride better and encourage you to ride more?

    will it make you happy?

if the answer is yes then why not get it?

  • Yes, yes, yes.

My current ride is too small, boring and old. Stupid reasons but i've had enough bikes now to know sort of what i'm after.

    I'll get drunk and wiggle.

  • i'll buy a steamroller frame and sell it to you second hand, for 400 quid.

seriously though, the steamroller is not the stuff dreams are made of - you should buy a restored JF Wilson, that's the thing the kids want.

  • bob jackson frame and fork £280

    • delivery + million year wait
  • how about buy rpm's bareknuckle so he can ride his other bike ;)

  • dogsballs how about buy rpm's bareknuckle so he can ride his other bike ;)

    it's going to happen.

as soon as a seatpost arrives, I'm riding the wils for a bit and BK up for grabs

  • I like the BK but i don't think it's for me. I need a do it all.
Commute and fun, possibly off road.

nimhbus i'll buy a steamroller frame and sell it to you second hand, for 400 quid.

I'm not a kid and though i love lugged frames, i'm trying to be practical. I'm struggling again.

Do you wanna sell your BK? Yesterday mine had a fight with a car door and lost. So I am looking for another one (I like the ride of BK's).

  • it's possible. lpg has first refusal once I've strippped it though. I'll let you know

  • Cool. Did you get your in the UK? I don't want to import mine again due to the costs.

  • yes, I had hubjub's last one before they got scarce

  • nimhbus seriously though, the steamroller is not the stuff dreams are made of.

I know but it's really practical. Unless you know of another frame thats prettier but does all the stuff the steamroller does?

  • get it.

  • This should never ever have been a topic, forgive me?
I promise to do a london to Brighton and a night ride or two.
