Wanted: New chain

Posted on
  • hi all i just got my first fixed wheel and have found out my chain dont fit it i need a bigger one but im not sure what size i have, can anyone out there help me?

  • sounds like you need a 1/8.

    for sure.

  • in thatr case if anyones got a 1/8 chain for sale whisper me. i can pick up anywhere in london i has bike :)

  • you can get them for about ten pounds or less. online even less.

someone might have one, but it probably won't be the right length, so you should get a new one. unless someone has a new one. in which case yes.

btw: where did the chain that didn't fit come from? is it a 3/32 (derailleur) chain?

  • yeh i think so came with the bike, 80s raleigh racer

  • ok, then you need 1/8 to match sprocket on back, i'm guessing the wheelbuilder put a 1/8 sprocket on there.

1/8 can go with 3/32 on front. 3/32 can only go with 3/32.

so you prob still have original 3/32 chairing on front? or have you changed it? either way should be fine. i've run 1/8 with 3/32 on conversions in the past. is not ideal, but is perfectly adequate.

  • adequate is my bikes middle name. i hope that glue keeps the sprocket on.............
    :)

  • i hope for your sake that was a joke!! If it wasn't get some good life insurance and DON'T SKID.

  • lol it was i got a lockring on my wheel (although i do no a rider without whos had some "incidents")

  • good for you haha. Er best of luck to your friend too. :)
