is the sprocket the same make? different makes have different chainlines, you possibly have it to tight? but it will be noisy at first then settle down.
so the gear was a bit too big then? {smug grin}
try brixton cycles or that place in putney, saves you taking it up to condor. -

it's not too tight, i made sure of that.
the sprocket is EAI, the original 17t was a condor one. i wondered if it's chainline causing the noise, it seems like it might be something like that. it looks pretty good, but certainly the EAI is a bit fatter than the condor sprocket.
17t was fine, i liked it, but i'm giving 18 a go to save my knees a bit. predictably, it's nicer up hills but not so nice coming down.
do putney cycles sell izumi chains then? i went into a local place today, they weren't sure what i was talking about.

Probably just the combo of new cog on older chain. It'll most likely settle.

ok - but the main issue i want to address is the fact that it's too short! where can one buy extra links?
-

You could get a half link off ebay. Sorry not sure about Izumi chains specifically. Will from Hubjub might have some cut ones and send you links?
Is it 1/8th? I have some spare links for 3/32 SRAM.

yeah, i was thinking of trying Mr Will..cheers

i've got some spare 1/8 links if you want

I also have spare links in 1/8th and some in 3/32" if you need.

i'll have some spares 1/8 izumi ones in the next day when i fit my new chain. alternatively condor sell izumi chains for £12.99

• #11
thanks for the offers guys, I might just get a new chain though
-
• #12
well i was going to nobble the links anyway
-

'nobble' ? you mean slip them a mickey? sabotage, sir?
So, i swapped the 17t gear on my bike to a 18t, and now the chain is a little too short. it seems condor got the length so tight, that the addition of one tooth on the cog now means that it's impossible to slip the chain off the ring to fix a puncture or whatever - you have to break the chain.
anyone know where i can buy izumi chain links?
also, i damaged the little 'paperclip' part on the masterlink - i'd like to get a replacement for this too.
it's also REALLY fucking noisy since i changed the sprocket -is this cos the sprocket is new and needs to wear with the chain?
