I used to have that frame. They don't like hitting cars much though.
Plus you'll never ever ever be able to find a replacement seatpost for it, so don't lose it :D

Don't grind them off, cut them off :)

cut them off with what? i ask because i have cable guides that need removing.
-
• #15
hacksaw, then a file,
tape around the edges first, saves the paint

sonicboom, depending on your budget I'd think harder about respraying the frame. I had a similar peugeot (after I wrote off my one like yours) and spent a long time cutting and filing off the brazeons and lever bosses etc, then resprayed it myself. It looked really nice after, but I found it took 5 cans of paint at £7.50 a can. It also chipped like a bastard once I took it up to uni. Since the frame itself probably was only worth ~£40, it wasn't a great investment and I've sinced upgraded to a really nice steel frame once the BB started going on the peugeot.
I guess what I'm saying is take a look at the bike and assess how much you want to throw at it. It's tough with these things not to spend a fortune upgrading everything on them, but if I did it again I'd but the ~£50 for a paintjob in the kitty and buy a better frame out of nice steel a year down the line. You can still change the wheels/bars/saddle etc in the meantime if you get the itch :D

Top tip - use tip-ex instead of expensive paint.
Real top tip - cut off the braze-ons with a hacksaw or one of those fancy dremel bladed things, then sand down the stumps with a file or whatever. Its best to avoid applying unecessary heat through friction to frames.
Oh also, another upgrade you should think about is metal clips, or at least straps to go with your plastic ones. Will give you a bit more added security (and keep yer feet on the pedals better!)
You can get leather christophe straps from condor for a fiver, and metal (NJS STAMPED!) toeclips from there for 7 quid i think, in a variety of sizes - M, L and LL. dunno what LL is really.

I'd personally advise against the christophe leather straps. I've got some, and they're stretching and wearing pretty quick. One day soon they're going to fail and it won't be pretty.
Go with nylon ones (even cheaper) or laminated leather ones, they won't snap. Nylon doesnt look as nice, but my leather ones look pretty rubbish now they're tatty anyway.

:( doesn't sound good... esp considering i bought them as a result of my SPDs failing. Oh well, i'll see how it goes. only a fiver afterall :)

Yeah mate, I went from spds to christophe straps too :D
-
• #21
i think im gonna go with what fc9k said and not bother taking off the cable guides and respraying the frame. it does seem to be alot of time and effort for something which is gonna be my beater and ill probably end up getting a proper nice track frame sometime in the future once ive got the money and urge to get one.
ill def get some straps tho as my feet did slip out of the sides a few times on my last ride. also, anyone know any decent smaller width pedals that dont cost a bomb. the ones on there now are nice but effing wide and ive pinged em on the road a few times round some dodgy corners -
• #22
think ill go for metal clips and lammy leather straps. itll only come to around a tenner anyways. any good sites for em?
-
• #23
you might as well get some nylon straps, there about a pound a strap and wont break on you any time soon, plus who wants to spend £40 on straps?
-
• #24
also, think of the animal who made your strap, or maybe not?
-
• #25
TRUE DAT! probably cos i dont have £40. i just rinsed my bank account paying for the wheel
after many months of getting parts, getting greasy and getting anxious as im now finally on the road.
here she is
random peugeot frame, cheap formula fixed/free hub on mavic open pro rim, aero bmx saddle. the other parts came witht the bike. still lots of work to be done
ps. i live in portsmouth, whats the sorta time to come to london to meet people and ride?
