  • Yup, yet another annoying bag question, sorry guys.

Went to Condor and had a good fondle of the bags, comes down to either Chrome metropolis +ve, feels tough, good waterproofing, -ve, not much in the way of pockets and no back padding or the Crumpler sticky date +ve back padding, loads of pockets possible -ve it feels like thinner (less tough?) material and the flap feels less waterproof.

    Both damn nice bags though.

    Anyone used both?

  • grobag!

  • really, it sounds like you have made your choice already and you are just looking for validation.

I have no experience with either. Based on your description I would go with the chrome.

    hope this helps.

  • aidan grobag!

    +1

  • +1 for a grobag, for the kind of money you are looking at the grobag is in your range and kicks all kinds of Crumpler and Chrome ass. You'll have a wait but fuck it, it is well worth it IMO.

  • My chrome has no quick access pockets for keys , fags, phone etc. A real pain. Go growbag.

  • crumplers are pretty tough, though.

  • Grobag indeed!

  • I suppose it depends on whether or not you need the pockets. The padding issue can be sorted out by having something flat against the back (such as your notebook in a sleeve). also, do you keep a lot of smaller things in your current bag? do you need the pockets? the more space you have to store useless stuff, the more likely you'll carry around things you don't need.

  • i have a chrome and although it has no easy access pockets its a good and not too expensive bag.

id love a grobag but cant justify the need to spend that much money when im cycling 10 minutes to uni with a few books.

  • Yeah, I only notice a lack of padding in my crumpler when I have big hard flat things packed. Throw some clothes or porno mags in there.

  • @scott, yer dead right my laptop survived at least 6 known crashes/bashes and all is tickettyboo, well except my shoulder/knee etc....

  • .. and your sunglasses.. which are still in 400 pieces at my place..

  • ah, but they were'nt in my bag...

  • kipsy My chrome has no quick access pockets for keys , fags, phone etc. A real pain. Go growbag.

might be that i had a different model to you, but did you find the stash pocket? proper nifty that. never liked the look of crumplers- very narrow strap much like a timbuk.

  • All I can say really is that I don't think I've ever seen a pro photographer with a crumpler bag.

    cough Grobag cough

  • how come when i google grobag all i get is this...

    cough Grobag cough

i use a crumpler shoulder bag (not for cameras) on the bike and a crumpler backpack for laptop and camera gear i sometimes use a tenba bag or a pelicase but mostly i use the crumpler as it doesn't draw attention to itself or the fact that it is carrying 6-25k worth of equipment but i'm not a press/wedding photographer which is what most people think of when you mention photography.

my bagaboo is going to be here next week so the crumpler shoulder bag is going to be retired after nearly 5 years good service.

  • bagaboo's seem to be the best out there, and should have mine by the endof the week! will have a couple in the shop too...

  • ummm.... i have checked the previous discussions, but....

how much does archie chage for a grobag?

  • 120 for the smaller, 160 for the massive one

  • im a professional photographer and have a chrome bag.i love it. i fit my Canon 5D, 16-35, and my 85 f/1.2in a timbuk2 laptop bag (I know, but a climbing buddy was sponsored by them and he gave it to me free). i Stick that inside my Chrome bag and its been fine for me here in Swansea as well as back home in Albuquerque. I love my Chrome bag, and as was mentioned above, it keeps ya only taking what you need, and not useless shit. I have no complaints about my chrome....and im picky as hell.
