Cheapest Velocity Deep V's in London

  • I'm building my fixed wheel project and I want some deep v's as they look badass.

I rang brick lane bikes and they reckon 100-110 for a rear wheel with a flip flop hub fully built. Is there anyone out there who can provide them cheaper? I have relatives coming from aus in a few weeks and they could bring a set over, but don't want to wait til then ;)

    Cheers!

  • The question is do you look bad ass enough to ride with wheels like that?

  • and do you rellies look bad ass enough to be seen carrying them over?? ;)

seriously, i would suggest waiting on having them brought over, should work out cheaper

  • Just buy the bits and get someone to build them for you...ARUP in S.E London does wheel builds for tenner a pop I think?

  • thebrick: The answer is, of course, yes. ;)

jonny: I hear ya. But I need, at least, a rear wheel in the mean time. Any idea on how much would the cheapest of the cheap rear fixed (doesn't have to be a flip flop at this stage) and where do you think I could I get one? brick lane bikes said a normal flip flop built wheel with standard rim = £90. bit much.

peterd: That looks like a good option - I'm constantly checking ebay ;) any idea where I could buy some parts cheap off the shelf? something like evans or cycle surgery?

  • for a smiler price goldtec could build you a wheel with a cxp33 (or open pro). far better quality hubs than the BLB one (are they using formulas?) lighter and a better ride too.
depends how important being a badass is to you or whether you need a decent quality light but strong wheel or not.

  • 53-12 over in Colchester(or is it Chelmsford?) do them the cheapest I think.....about £32 per rim

  • £30-35 is going rate just for rims, pending machined or non-machined etc

  • If you build it yourself or use one of the many trusted wheel-builders on this site you could get a bling rear deep v for the price of a BLB standard build. For about £120 my rear wheel will be velocity deep v laced to phil wood (for less than the price of the phil wood hub, thanks to ebay).

If you buy all the components of the BLB wheel you could probably get it built for 70 or 80 I'm guessing?

  • Hutch Anyone ever bought them already made up from the US?

i thought about that and did a bit of a calculation. After postage and duty it ends up working a tad less than BLB. i settled for BLB because it allowed me to get a machines braking surface for the front and not the back - something you don;t have the option on with the ebay store (i asked them). they build up the wheels within 3 hours so i was happy.

If i had the patience i'd like to have done what asm did and keep an eye out for a bargain hub on ebay.

  • Get yourself a US contact who'll help for beer money or reciprocal shopping for EU stuff they can't get or a shop who'll help you out by marking down the value for customs and marking as a gift.

You can mark a package as a gift with ANY value you like coming into the UK and never pay tax/duty on it. The customs just don't have time to check whats in it; they charge based exactly whats on the customs label and thats it. Unless you try to buy cheap cigs in which case they will f*ck you.

I've got a bling King/Wood/Sugino package on the way for about 40% less than UK retail thanks to a bloke helped out on another forum.

  • Sorry, I need a machined and non-machined, is BLB the only place in London I can find one? I cant find any even on any UK online shops.

  • Cavendish Cycles also have Deep Vs, and am i right in saying Putney Cycles do too?

  • Ah perfect, I just saw Cavendish do somewhere else. Thankyou sir.

  • That'll be £10.95 please, or a white 1/8th chain (unused). :)

  • Here you go fine sir.

  • $$$$$$$$$$$ bring bring

  • asm, I like you very much.

  • You might want to edit that now the spammer's been nuked, Ed, or it seems a tad rude to åsm.

  • Anyone know any bike shops in Central London that stock Velocity deep V rims?
    Many thanks.

  • I'm about 90% sure that Fitzrovia have them and about 70% that BLB have them.

  • ^^
    Will check them out.
