  • hippy What is Google?

    ha!

  • not a chaintug

  • yup, he didn't state if it was for single speed or fixed....

  • fuck those mks ones. i've snapped 2 pairs

  • snapped them?

  • yes, snapped. had them break apart on me. honestly, i don't really trust njs. it might be ok for japan, but it's certainly not idiot/gary-proof.

  • i think chunky hippy, snapped one too...........but that doesn't surprise me.....

  • kilgore_trout yes, snapped. had them break apart on me. honestly, i don't really trust njs. it might be ok for japan, but it's certainly not idiot/gary-proof.

I don't want to call you an idiot or a gary, but snapping chain tensioners must have been a result of improper use or installation of some kind. Did they snap while you were riding or while you were tightening them? They shouldn't take that much pressure as it is the axle nut that should do the bulk of the work.

    chunk

  • They are chain TUGS not tensioners..

Tensioners are for single speeds (typically with vertical dropouts) to keep chain tight and installing one on a fixed is stupid.
Tugs are the jobbies designed to drag your rear axle back to stop the wheel moving under load.

You can infer it all you want.. :P

I lost the allen bolt from the end of mine. I thought this wasn't possible as they were fixed together somehow?
I'm it happened some time after a puncture repair when the bolt was stuck (grit, whatever?) and I had to punch the crap out of it to get the wheel out.
So, yeah, you could say improper use but I would prefer to swap the tyre and ride home, losing the tug, than walk 15k..

This is not a chain tensioner !

This is a chain tug, chain tensioners are very different.

[EDIT - like hippy said !]

  • I'm glad someone understands my pain.. :)

  • i said after, the fact that he didn't mention if it was single speed or fixed......i know the difference thanks ;o)

  • ???

  • That's a "keyring" dogs.. it's used to hold "keys" together in the one place. Clever huh?
