I'd recommend these clips if you're wearing nice trousers:

Id get double straps straight away. So much more comfy and secure than singles, beware what pedals you putting them on though i found the ones i bought were too wide to fit through the little holes in the pedals so had to cut em down a bit.

Plastic clips (used kingfisher, tioga, mt. christophe) - a) don't get bent out of shape if they hit the road/kerb when you ride on the back of the pedals. b) look a bit wrong on a road bike. c) are more comfortable in my opinion. d) are more likely to break in a crash. not sure if this is good / bad?
Metal clips (using MKS) - a) look good + classic bling factor. b) my left clip got scraped to sh1t and bent up regularly coz I was riding on the back plenty. c) can cut into shoes.
Straps - nylon straps last longer, cheapo leather strap lasted less than 1 week. never tried laminated / double / expensive ones.. -

thanks for the feedback guys, i'm now thinking that straps may be better for me than clips, has anyone had any experience of power grips?

I put some MKS doubles on my RX-1s last week and they feel fan-tas-tic... Like cosy slippers! Bit awkward to get into at first but really secure...
Definitely gettin' some for my other ride... -

i wanted to take a look at these in the evans shop in spitalfields the other day (i know i know, i was bored), but since i was made to wait for hours and stumbled upon a set of absolutely clueless shop assistants, i stormed out and decided i would stick to my clips :D
however, prior to that i had look at a few reviews on the web and most sounded quite positive. i am still quite curious about these things. -

I think they are meant to be popular with people in snowy countries because you can use big ass boots in them.
Worth a go maybe as long as your not brakeless, they don't look secure enough for that.

Have been spd in the past, but am finding with fixed that I'm just getting the fear too much, especially whilst learning to trackstand. Once I feel better about it I may go back to clipless as its great for my mutant foot.on a completely different note received these today which I had forgotten that I had bought on ebay whilst drunk. brilliant.

you can learn to trackstand with spds, just wear normal shoes, and the best place to learn is indoors, when watching tv or something, that's what i've been doing

MKS Clips & double straps my choice
hmm btw JOL.. How you find those Continental tyres. I had them and think they are BEEPReally good. Grippy and skidproofy. I heard they have 2 manufacturers and some are shite some are good.
Gone for Rubinos this time. -

I rode clips and straps for a few years fixed. Clips need to be slightly bigger than you need otherwise the ends of your toes will touch and this will wear your shoes and also become painful after a while. Single straps are fine, good quality leather best, unless you are track-sprinting, put a twist where they go through the underside of the pedal to keep them in place.
But ... spds are much better in all ways, also diminishes toe overlap.

But then again there are more than 2 cuts on the tire's surface so the puncture protection at least is good :)

and so, kids, the moral is ..don't skid.

Object17 @Flickwg - How are the injuries doing?
sorry for the slow reply, they're getting there, been told to be off the bike for 1-2 weeks so we shall see what happens
The most cycling i've done is trying to trackstand, i'm also going a little crazyhope you are going well with all your "tube time", just remeber its not illegal if you do it to Mr. 50x14
Mornin guys,
Looking to get some toe clips n straps and was after recommendations i.e. plastic or metal, what size? (i've got size 8.5-9 plates)
I have slightly weird feet in that my right foot has limited flexibility so its natural position on the pedal isnt on the ball of the foot (although I've forced this in the past with clipless)
but i'm also concious of toe overlap. Not sure any of this makes any difference anyway
cheers
