East London, West Coast of America.
Why East London? Because there's marginally less collar-up, Oakleys-on-top-of-head, guffawing, public-school, job-at-daddy's-investment-brokerage, wankers there.
CLASS WAR! ;-)
Why the West Coast of America?

ah but the east is the place of ponsey apartments for city wankers...
hell-bent on collars up rugger-buggery at every turn

North is like a compromise between the two.
You get all sorts. It's a great mix.

Not in the parts of Hackney/Bethnal I used to live in - too many 14-year-old grime MCs with knives for the Oxbridge crowd.

Nah, all the city twats live in Fulham and Southwark.
East is full of media twats though.

Yeah, and walk 2 minutes eastwards and you end up on the 'bad' side of kentish town.

But 'bad' means 'good' on the street.

let's face it.
there's good and shite everywhere.
except highbury, that really is the end of the world
-

The world's end is in Camden, init?
I like living in Finsbury, but a lot of people seems to misinterpret the locale.

That's the issue. I live in Finsbury, which being the slum ridden area it was at the turn of the 19th/20th century, totally devoid of green spaces, was gifted a splendid park, replete with boating lake and cycling track... albeit 4 miles away.
Whenever I go to Finsbury Park, I take my penny farthing, and parade around the perimeter as if I own the place, because along with my fellow EC1 residents, I fucking do.

I live in Hammersmith and love it - lots of places for a good night out, a great commute into the centre of town through Hyde Park, and places like Richmond Park only round the corner. Easy to get out of London from as well - and to good places!

God I remember when Southwark was full of hard Irish Catholics, heady days..

Me too. As a student it's alright - small food shop 2 minutes away, cheap pubs nearby, good transport.
Although next year there's no way I'm going to be able to afford anywhere even near here. I've been told north London is good if you want 5/6 bed house, couple of bathrooms, reasonably sized kitchen/living room for 5/6 students' budget.
As long as it's got a hallway, which means a secure-and-convenient-bike-storage-facility, I'm happy.
