go for it, silver and black look ok
-
• #3
Or just get some System Ex hubs or whatever.

Think about what you want in the slightly longer term (other than the bike finished quickly!). I'm sure Condor will have System EX or Miche hubs in stock soon and if you want the classic look then it might be better to wait. Goldtecs are really good hubs (I've got one), but they don't look classic (more industrial chic) and I think they might look odd with all silver components. However, it might look quite cool - I can't decide!

the bike is dark blue so should look o.k if it was lighter then i would say no
-
• #6
yeah, well they're not being wildy helpful about when other stuff might or might not be in stock, and they've got my scheduled for this week, so putting it off could mean quite a bit of a wait, so i don't really want to do that. just want it finished.
yeah, i figured the dark blue might work with the black hub - but then, silver spokes and rims? hard to tell, init..

I think the combo could look quite cool. Silver rims will make the bike look better than black IMO, otherwise the whole thing looks a bit dark.
-
• #8
I say go out and buy some cheap silver hubs, like miche or systemex and take them to condor
-
• #9
I think thats acceptable, the other way round may be crap though.
-
• #10
they have silver phils for £164.99 in the front display case ;)

I always think wheels look best in all black on MTB's and all silver on roadie bikes. Just not quite right the other way around. Having said that I think the bike below is one of the best looking bike of any type I have ever seen:

Condor not being wildly helpful? - no shit
why not tell them to leave the wheels off and build them yourself? - that should save some pennies anyway
-
• #13
dude, if bike shop of your choice is being a bit slack sourcing your components take matters into your own hands and buy them yourself, you'll more than likely get them cheaper, and it'll mean they can build them up right away.
Plenty of online sources deliver quickly so there's no worry about getting it in time.... -
• #14
and condor is known for their slack on sourcing bits...
-
• #15
but that said, i'm finding it hard to source a pair of silver system ex/ambrosio hubs with 32holes...
-
• #16
cough, goldtec, cough
-
• #17
i got a system ex rear from cyclebasket in the post just this very morning. 32 hole. fixed/fixed. £21 + p+p.
-
• #18
yeah but i'm building a pair for my mate... if not i would have went for that...

cornelius blackfoot dude, if bike shop of your choice is being a bit slack sourcing your components take matters into your own hands and buy them yourself, you'll more than likely get them cheaper, and it'll mean they can build them up right away.
Plenty of online sources deliver quickly so there's no worry about getting it in time....they've been very good overall, i have to say. i can't be arsed chasing around ordering it myself and getting it to them..

dogsballs they have silver phils for £164.99 in the front display case ;)
what, for a pair? they quoted me 250 extra for phils when i asked this morning..
-
• #21
they are hopeless. walk in the door and at the very bottom of the display case with the track stuff (virtually straight ahead), there is a pair of silver phils with a paper tag saying £164.99 (well it was there on sat afternoon). If it's shown as £164.99 then don't budge. Definitely is the price, i asked the head guy. i you hunt around that shop, its amazing what you find ie black sugino 75's inc chainring for £120. i'd ask about the lovely champage 75's as well ;)
-
• #22
just called them. he says that is a single mountain bike phil wood hub for 164.99.....
-
• #23
dogs, the champagne ones are more than likely "mighty" 75's quite a bit dearer.
-
• #24
anyway, i'm thinking the black goldtecs will look pretty cool with the fork and the dark blue paint.
it's just a bit nerve-racking, someone else building the bike and you don't know exactly how it's going to look.
maybe i'll go to pick it up and say... hmm, change that and that , i'll be back next week.

i've gone for standard silver 75s myself.
so, my blue condor pista is being built this week, and i wanted to go for a vintage silver look on the bits, rather than the black they have shoved over this years models. so, i have a silver post, crank set and rims, but guess what - no silver hubs in stock , except Phils, and i can't go the extra 250 quid, really.
so as it stands i have black goldtecs going on - i can't quite picture whether it will look odd or not with silver rims. thoughts?
