Sidi's and SPD-SL's arrived :)

Posted on
  • So my Sidi Raiden's are here and my Shimano SPD-SL R540's arrived yesterday. £80 all in with postage paid for my winning the works lottery at the weekend. Looking forward to my first clipless experience.

  • that's what i use, sidi's and spd-sl's. how did you get on?

I find them so easy to use, and the stiff sole is amazing for sprinting/hills. I'm never, ever gonna use trainers to cycle with again.

    clipless forever.

  • as quoted on the sidi website...

"WARNING! No bicycle shoes or other protective device can completely protect you in all foreseeable or unusual accidents. Riding bicycle might be dangerous. In the event of an upset, collision, or other accident, you may be seriously injured or killed, regardless of the type of protective equipment that you are wearing. Do not expect or depend upon your Sidi cycling shoes or other apparel to prevent or reduce injury in the event of an accident. Under some rare circumstances, the wearing of technical footwear may actually increase your injury. The only way to certainly avoid being injured while riding a bicycle is not to ride."

i have nothing against clipless i'd love to try it when i have the money but i find that last line up there really really funny...

  • let's just stand over the top tube and not move... XD

  • edmundane as quoted on the sidi website...

    ...i can has aksident?

  • aha! what if a bicycle fell off a 13th floor balcony and landed on your head as you wandered safely as a pedestrian below?

  • You've come over all Wordsworth.

  • So I tried 'em out in the parking area outside my flat yetserday and rode them into work today. They clip in very easily and unclip at just the right amount of force/twist. I'd recommend them to anyone. I don't really feel more 'connected to the bike' but I can ever so slightly feel the more efficient power transfer. Was cycling into fast headwinds this morning so didn't really get up to much speed but on the way home it'll be a different story.

  • edmundane .The only way to certainly avoid being injured while riding a bicycle is not to ride."

why isn't this kind of comment written on everything?

The only way to certainly avoid being injured while eating toast is not to buy bread.......if only!

  • ^it will happen!

  • The only way to ensure that you don't catch any sexually transmitted diseases is to not have sex... ever! It's true I suppose but still...

  • kipsy aha! what if a bicycle fell off a 13th floor balcony and landed on your head as you wandered safely as a pedestrian below?

You'd better hope you wore your helmet.

I love seeing people in Tesco wearing cycling helmets. It's brilliant. The moment I'm off the bike the helmet comes off but some people just don't care. Even better with bibshorts and jersey to match. Tap dancing around tesco.

  • Sometimes I just can't be bothered with the palava of glasses outside straps/buff/helmet/glasses back on/whilst faffing with locks/blahblah, unless it's hot weather.

Anyway, I don't patronize those community-killing monopolists, so what the fuck do I care?

I'm a slave to Tesco. Love my clubcard points. One day they'll pay for a holiday.

  • Your loyalty is commendable. I'm sure all the holidaying Tesco execs agree ;)

What if they fall down in the Dairy section? They have a helmet to save their head and flourescent jersey to make sure they get found before they freeze to death.

I'm bringing a helmet next time I go to Tesco.. It's rough in there!

  • "I'm bringing a helmet next time I go to Tesco.. It's rough in there!"

    Extreme shopping.

  • I don't spend 5 minutes peeling all my roadiescum crap off just to buy a Lucozade. Better things to do.
Once you've donned lycra you can wear anything anywhere and not care. :)
