60s Condor track ends

Posted on
  • I've decided I'm gonna get 'red bike' restored to its former glory, my track ends have been cut down tho' so they'll need to be replaced before any lovely enamelling can get done... Apparently they're Condor ones... Where would I find such a thing? Condor couldn't help... Turns out 'red bike' may be a Bill Hurlow now... Guess I'll find more clues when the powder coat comes off...
Here's what mine look like now...

And this is what they should look like...

    Any ideas?

  • i'd leave it, you've got plenty of room, plus it' add up to a fair bit to get done.

  • Not quite the same but I like these:

    http://www.euroasiaimports.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=784&idproduct=1104

You could just get a pair of them cut from mild steel plate by an engineering firm.

  • I'd do as above to a chater lee template. Or do a bit of research and draw up your own. I think bikecult hold an archive, not currently up on the web for some reason but the link is http://www.bikecult.com/works/dropouts.html

ASK.com for it or google may help.

That was with 700c wheels tho', here's the state of play with 27" wheels... A different story...
Hoping to spend less than 200 notes on gettin' everything done...

  • There's a whole page of dropouts here:

Where's the picture of the "correct" dropout?

You can also get to see a snapshot of this page at archive.org, although it doesn't look as though it has been online for a couple of years.

  • Yes, it was online until a few weeks ago maybe. I've used it before and i'm a little suprised they have taken it down. :(

  • my 1949 holdsworth cyclone which has about 2" of play in the chatterlea ends

  • Both of these have the extra thick bit.

    Both found here.

  • you missed

  • Those top ones could work Tommy, wanna keep it as orig as possible but looks like I'll probably have to settle for something like these...

    Big chunky mofos... :D

  • I fitted the LongShen LS15s to my bike, bottom one in TheBrick(Tommy)'s post above, they are very nice but a bitch to work with as a retro fit, new frame builds only with that one IMHO (shame as they are very cool IMHO)

You will need tabbed replacement dropouts like the ones above, with a flat tab that fits into the stays.

If you want something very smart looking and practical, go for a flat steel track end and have the raised part cut from stainless steel and brazed on, then the drop painted to match the frame but the raised stainless section polished up shiny (not too smooth though, as you need your wheel nuts to grip it)

  • Ouch, looks like they been castrated! ;)

  • Fully understand the wish to stay original but* if it was mine* then I would love to got the stainless route too.

Gonna email Jonny Cycles now, I've been lusting after those track ends for a while but had completely forgotten about them! Good call Max mate!

Roberto Ouch, looks like they been castrated! ;)

I know, *Who *would do that?! :-(

  • Some more pleasure for you then: :)

  • Man, that style of ends always makes me think of ducks....or...

  • Jonny's sellin' me a pair for $50 all in, almost got a pair of pukka Condor ones from Yellow Jersey but they'd just run out... Oh well, these will look even sweeter!
Just ordered a FastBoy fender too! Woo hoo! :D
