Have you tried searching the forum?

Yeah, I had a look. The only post I found said 107 or 109mm BB with Stronglight cranks, which didn't seem that well thought of. Just wondered what others were running and I wasn't sure if different cranks pulled onto the tapers of the BB by different amounts meaning that 2 different cranks would need 2 different length BBs for the same chainline, if that makes sense!

I've got Dotek cranks. They were cheap when I built it as an SS 18 months ago, but they're nothing to write home about. Not totally sure what the BB is but have a feeling it's a 113mm Shimano UN72. Chainline may be a mil or two off but seems quiet enough, currently it's fixed which prob help the line slightly.

I'm sure my Miche is on a 110mm for my Goldtech, all my bikes bar one are on Goldtechs and either have 108/110 or 111mm BBs, I think the Shimano 105s are on 108 and the Stronglight on 111mm.
I should write them down somewhere when I put them in.

I had a Stronglight trackset with 122mm BB to get chainstay clearance on a 135mm spaced bike. Chainline was WELL off, but I put up with the noise for a year. Now running old Campag 9spd triple Veloce crankset with 113mm BB, (middle ring) and it's all lined up nicely.

miche bb is 107 it's what i have on my condor with goldtecs, works better now i have an EAI cog which sits a few mm further out.

110 shimano bb with stronglight track crank and EAI cog gives a pretty good chainline..
but a 113 would probably make it spot on for my frame.
if in doubt, get a £6 shimano BB and try it ..the worse that can happen is that you spend £6 getting a perfect chainline
of course, don't forget that mixing ISO and JIS tapers will put all this out. make sure you know what your cranks are.

The Miche BB is adjustable, which may help.

it depends on the cranks...my guess is if you have a dura ace track's which use 109,5 BB for dura ace hubs which are for 42 chainline then goldtec is 45mm so it means plus 2 or three milimeters on both sides of axle which leaves you with 114/115/116mm axle length....also depends on the sprocket but that should be just one mil or so........
and non-track cranks are just one big guess i suppose......but you have a bit of an adjustment cuz you can put the chainring on the other side of the spider...

Thanks for all the replies. Unfortunately the bloke with the frame is now not selling so it's back to my mtb for a while. I've got a bonus due so I may go out and buy a Genesis Flyer or a Filmore. Thanks again

These obscene city bonuses we hear so much about...

Yeah I wish. I'm a London Ambulance Paramedic and they've just offered me a grand less tax to stay on the shittiest rota that's ever been designed for an extra 6 months, which, being some sort of gullible spooner, I've accepted 'cos I can see a fixie at the end of the tunnel. However, if you're ever unfortunate enough to need my services just quote Londonfgss and I'll make sure you'll get the full motherload of morphine!!! ;-)
Anyway gotta go, I'm on duty and I now have to go and wrestle with a 14 year old drunk 'cos the old bill don't do drunks any more.
Kurt
Peace

it's been fine up until last week when i noticed the bb was loose, didn't feel or hear anything but i was just checking the crank bolts and noticed it, brought the tool for the job from BC on the way home and tightened up the drive side cup and all is well. i took the bb out and had a look and the grease was clean and the bearings were smooth (after6 months use).
because there is no flange on the cups it is more prone to loosening but then you do get to tweak the chainline a few mm which may be handy.
if i get another 6 months out of it and have to buy a new one i'll consider it good value as they are only about £14.
Hi,
I'm building up a Steamroller at the mo (my first self build). I'm gonna use Goldtec hubs, but the blurb on the site states they are 45mm chainline. Can anyone who uses these fill me in on what cranks and BB you use to get the right chainline.
Thanks,
Kurt
