Well my headset is screwed..

well ultimately it is not because it comes loose und the constant rattles
from sodding London third world roads.
Condor wants 40 quid for it to replace and cant book it in before Friday afternoon !
That sucks big time. Especially I thik that the cups on both ends are all right.
Only the thread on the upper ring is fscked so it wont counter ...me thinks
But they do only sell complete headsets for arround 25 quid
but me knows nottin' aboutheadsets. I only know its a one inch shimano and I cant
take the tube for one day !
So please help. Suggestions ?

get a £15 headset from a different shop?

you could easily get a top nut at most l/b/s's, most are bound to have old spares liying around, probably cost you a pound...

Get a ShimaNO 105 one, shops sells them on eBay for £12, they're ok headsets i think

Tried putting a spacer in, tried turning the lockring upside down
the thread just lost its bite...damn..

i've got a spare headset with no bearings (use the old ones or put new ones in?) or just use the top threaded bit?... IM if you want it ? no charge but beer is always good?

If you aren't pressing in cups or pressing on the crown race it's easy. Otherwise you need special tools (or murtle's hammer and screwdriver).

Where do you live? Could you come to polo on sunday. I am sure we could work something out. It is not hard to do at all.

Tommy, thats very kind, but unfortunately I am flying back to Germany sorting out my life.
luckily it was only the lockring and my headset now sits tighter than a camel arse in a sandstorm.
Only a cosmetic problem persists to that the black seal closing between quil stem is gone because the threading on the fork is 3mm too long and sticks out above the lock ring.
I most def. rock up to some social rides after moving over perm in Nov. and things settle down. I am not sure about bike polo though. In school when there was teams where decided upon, I was always picked last...traumatized sigh
