Broken Spoke

  • Today snapped a spoke on the drive side of the rear wheel. I blame the weekends curry and ale fest.

Have removed the offending article but don't have a spare. Is it ok to ride to work \ bike shop tomorrow and replace later ? its only mildly buckled.

Or will It do more harm than good and I should get the train with all the other lemmings?

  • you should be fine with one missing spoke tomorrow. is the wheel still reasonably true or is it wobbling all over the place.

  • If you're gentle on the wheel, it should be fine. However, pnce you snap one spoke, others will start going unless you sort the tension out.

I've been on bike tours where folks have ridden 30+ miles with broken spokes and they made it without too many problems. So slow down, stop jumping curbs and cross yer fingers.

  • Reasonably true thankfully

I was hoping the consensus would be ride !

  • Eddie, just out of interest, do you lock your bike through the back wheel? I snapped three in a month before I worked out it was my springy Specialized lock that was ruining them.

  • You can ride thousands of kays with a broken spoke. Tighten its neighbors. You increase the chances of breaking more but it's doable. Sooner fixed = best though.
