Ooops chain off

  • I've had my crappy old conversion (semi-horizontal droputs) for a few years now, and it's done fine.

Going down the hill this morning it felt as if the wheel might need yanking back a touch to tighten the chain. Fortunately, it wasn't until I'd nearly stopped at the bottom that the chain flipped off the front ring.

    Back wheel stopped etc. Arse.

Any ideas why it might suddenly decide not to play nice anymore? Sorry for being thick.

  • Was the chain tesnion OK when you set off? Maybe it has just been getting looser and looser since you last tightened it...

  • i can't ride with any play at all, it freaks me out and upsets me (balance wise, as well as psychologically) when trackstanding.

  • ye i always adjust play out the second i feel it as well, it's annoying as hell...

  • I find it easier to skid when my chain is a bit floppy.. that said i always tighten it anyway!

  • the wheel will slide forwards in a convert... same thing happened with mine
