why don't links from this forum open in a new tab/window? Mr K?
-
• #3
I asked him right at the start, but he dissed my shit.
something about it being part of the browsing "journey"
or just right click and open in new tab. you can probably set up your browser to open all links in new tabs
-
• #4
It's up to the browser (and its config) to sort that shit out not the website.
-
• #5
why?
I disagree.
-
• #6
Because if you config your browser to handle new links as new windows or new tabs, you don't want a website throwing your browser something different and confusing it.

but it depends what sites you are browsing, chain reaction, or wiggle for example, would be a pain if every click you made opens a new window.
yet when clicking external links on this site, it's nicer to get a new window, so if it's some shit you close it and don't lose your place.
yes, I know there's a back button, yes I know you can configure the browser. But really I still disagree with what you said.

don't have to configure anything, shift+click in IE and CTRL+click in FF does the trick
-
• #9
indeed it does.
except I don't know if Nimhbus' head mounted probe can do two keys at once..

Anyway DK's already said he's not changing it so it seems best if you make the change doesn't it? :P -

well, I have, some time ago.
but it was Nimmo's request I was answering.

in the new draft of HTML target = "_blank" will be removed. the only way from then on to open a new window is via javascript.
there's a big article i read somewhere about why it should be a web standard... want to read that? -

It's not accessible. Also, new internet users do not expect new windows to open and quickly get confused, especially as they tend to have all their windows maximised in Windows.
It was removed from the draft XHTML spec because it's not structural, but behavioural, and therefore doesn't belong in the markup.
It's a beautiful thing.
