go extra coin and get goldtecs, which will last much better than the systemx or miche (more for beater bike), think freshtripe will be selling cheaper than BLB soon ;)

I had this discussion with Brixton a couple of days ago...
Miche are tricksy as they don't have a sealed cartridge - or something along those lines...
They have GoldTech in stock - I second what DogsBalls said...
Check this out though, for price comparison:

yup, get yourself some goltec's, will last a lot longer and are plenty strong enough for bigger guys.

I run miche high flange 32 hole on my commuter and they are rock solid - and I eat more cakes than Hippy! so they are under a bit of force...
get them built by a good wheel builder and they'll take the knocks and the weight [ your ride will feel a bit less 'padded' if you run high flanges on a deep section rim]
oh and I've got a pair of boxfresh CXP33 sliver 32 for sale [bought them brand new just before roberto seduced me with his CXP30's]
Knock a couple of quid off like, and you won't have to pay delivery if you're in London

I got my rear wheel direct from BETD. They were pretty helpful, speak to Dan. The couriers they used were useless though, managed to misplace my wheel in their warehouse, took a couple of days and plenty of calls but got it in the end.
I think the complete wheel -- Goldtec fixed/fixed hub, silver CXP33 rim and DT Swiss spokes (you can get sapim if you like) worked out @ £110.

Which would make them... how much?

Miche have a cap over the bearing races which you can fill with a splodge of grease.
System-X are a real-value purchase, I have had them on two wheel-sets and they last OK.

I'm interested, can you whisper me how much?

Don't like the goldtecs, whatever I get has to be silver.

Miche every time. 20 quid more expensive but definetly worth it, especially if you weigh in at more then a 100K.

miche are recommended from me. solid, sealed and real nice looking ;)
only problem is the axles. not sure how rust proof they are. just make sure they are greased up.
EDIT: and they are nice and simple 120mm

I've got 36h Miche Primatos on 'red bike', rock-solid and silky smooth, I'm not *that *lardy but like I say, solid, no complaints... Dare I say it, they feel better than the Phils I've got on 'white vanity bike'...

Sounds like Miche is the way to go, cheers for the thoughts, no doubt there will be loads more questions, in fact I feel one coming on now...

Apparently the thread pitch on Primatos is non-standard (or something like that) - however, you can easily use the miche sprocket system, or just don't swap your sprockets over all the time if like me you use EAI.
I'm certainly happy with my 36h Primatos, and would recommend them. -

I think miche use the italian threads so work with Miche system, campagnolo and phil.

Richard Cheese EAI
Excuse my ignorance, but what is that?

Ooops, is it true that you can't fit a freewheel to a miche hub? Not having ridden fixed or single yet other than a few quick rides I'd like to keep the option open even if I am building it fixed to start.
OK, biting the bullet and starting to build up my Jackson as a fixed.
It was going to be a beater, now it'll take me time to get it all together (£) but a bit of subtle bling...
Wheel wise I'm thinking 32 hole silver CXP33 rims and then either System EX or Miche hubs.
I'm big and heavy (105kg) so the wheels need to be strong and this will be my first fixed/single.
I like the look of high flanges but know nothing about their pros and cons.
The System EX hubs are fixed/fixed giving me a bit of flexibility in terms of ratios, whereas the Miche seems to be fixed on one side, plus a different thread judging by earlier posts. They seem to work out around the same cost per pair.
I know Hovis has Miche, any other opinions either way?
Cheers,
Ben
