Anyone got a frame/bike for sale?

Posted on
  • I've just moved to London for uni and am living in halls so I'm not allowed to bring a bike into my room, or flat ("no exceptions" apparently). I'm not going to bring my Roadrat up even though I can get insurance simply because of the hassle of rebuilding it all, so I'm just after a beater that I can run fixed to leave out in the night, get me from Hammersmith to South Ken everyday.

So anyone got anything they are flogging? Let me emphasise the beater point, as well :P

Oh and if anyone has a folding bike, or knows of one, I might be interested. I think I'm going to go crazy if I don't get a bike soon to ride about, travelcards are a rip off.

  • What's the deal with "halls"? Can they kick you out? Is it like a rental agreement? What rights (if any) do you have? Can you sweet talk a hall monitor or something? Storage space indoors somewhere?
Arc up about the feckers not giving you space! "So much for the fscking ozone layer.. s'pose you wan't me to drive to uni!" That type of shit! :)

  • In my contract I basically end up agreeing that I won't bring a bike in :( There's no storage cupboards, although in my flat there is a massive landing area which could have a bike no problem, and in my room there's space. It's really annoying :(

  • Yeah.. I feel your pain. Probably not as much tho.. I'm now the only guy who knows our software that hasn't resigned.. mwuahahahhaha feel the power!

"Yes, and I'd like this thing over here.. what is it? Oh yes, Liverpool St Station.. yes, I want this closed down to be my personal bike shed"

    Like I said.. mwuahahahahhaa! :)

  • haa :)

I'm contemplating a folder because I can just shove it in a folding bike bag, and no one would know any difference. I just don't want to spend loads, and I don't want all the crap you get on a folder like racks, bells, folding pedals - you know what I mean. I ride fixed for a lot of reasons, one of them being the bike is very clean and minimal.

Anyway I'm off to bed because I've drank way too much - the joys of freshers week :P

  • I love the Airnimal (folding) bikes, they are not super easily foldable but seems to have a good perfomance, such a shame the price is just insane :(

  • Yeah, if the price of a good folder without all the crap on it was cheaper, new or secondhand, I'd buy one straight away.

  • what kinda size bike you looking for bud?

    Student loan.....

  • I'm not sure of top tube sizes and so on, I can't remember what I ride at the moment, but I'm about 6ft tall.

Hahaha, I wish! Next term is going to be really tough for me, especially at £101 rent pw.

  • I have a geared bike you could just have, or convert to fixed if you can get a cheap rear wheel - not hard on here! It's nothing special, and deffo not light - Prophete mild steel road frame, steel wheels (27s, I think),10sp (I think) cut down MTB bars with thumbshifters, BMX brake levers and really nice leather-on-neoprene grips. I built it years ago and am oddly attached to it, but if you promised to give it back rather than chuck it away when you're done with it, you could just take it away. I'm in Putney, SW London.

    how fuckin nice is that...

  • I've pm'd fatbloke, btw - don't want to appear rude by not replying :) (I've been so busy at uni, with freshers' week and all)

  • yeah boozin and chics ;) :D

  • eeehhhh oh wow! really?

It would be kept outside overnight (in grounds of Charing cross hospital) - that ok with you?

Sorry about my slow reply, I've been so busy with freshers' week at uni. Totally knackered too.

Yeah, that's fine. If it's nicked, it's nicked - no worries. Just want to see it get used. It's pretty big too - might be a 23-inch frame, can't remember. I can measure it tomorrow to save you a wasted trip on the shitty District Line!

I haven't ridden it in ages but I think it's good to go - if it needs some work I've got most of a workshop in the garage. It IS heavy though, if you're used to decent bikes - the frame is just boggo mild steel. But if you can't get on with it, you can always bring it back.

I'm working from home tomorrow if you want to come get it, otherwise early-ish Sat am.

  • aaah.. working from home on a friday! I need a job like that..
