Fitting a chaintug

Posted on
  • My new chaintugs arrived today - but the instructions are in Japanese :-(.

I'm only going to fit one on the chain side, but before I do I just wanted to be sure that the correct way to use this is to use the tug to get the wheel centred and then crank down the nut, or do I get the nuts tight and then set the tug to hold the axle in place?

    Ta.

  • Why just one side?

I generally get the tension pretty much where I want it and tighten the nuts so that they hold the wheel in place, but not fully tight.

Then adjust the tugs to get it perfect.

    Then tighten the nuts fully.

Tugs on both side really help ease alignment plus tension. Not sure what the benefit of only doing half the job.

  • I use the tugs first (inside the dropouts, natch) then tighten the nuts, but I use two of em. Chaintugs are awesome, they make your bike feel really solid. I can't see why one would be different, maybe a little trickier to get the wheel centred or something. Enjoy

  • Picture?

  • Of tugs?

    Go look on Hubjub

  • MA3K Picture?

    Why?

If I get it done on time, you might see it on Saturday. The only things on my bike with NJS on them.

I thought the idea was that you only really needed one on the chain side because that's where most of the pressure comes from anyway, and I'm not sure I want to be messing around with two of these things if I have to fix a p***ture.

  • well you're more likely to pull the wheel forward in the drive side dropout.
that's why people tend to use just the one
