I am actually going to go check that bike out soon... so he's selling it for cheaper, any idea why? I'm studying here temporarily and wanted something to ride but I dont really have the resources or time to put something together so I thought I would give it a shot. is it worth it? did you have problems with the chain or rear wheel? I just don't want to be duped over what looks like a good deal

from about the 10 e-mails today, it really seems he just doesn't like the bike, i've got a funny feeling he's never ridden fixed. then using the loose chain as a way to get out of it. but there was nothing wrong with the bike, man i played bike polo on it for 3-4 hours and no issues (and if you saw me play then thats a good test). well i sorted the gremlins b4 then ie shim the seat-post for extra precaution.
i'd take a spanner and re-tighten the rear wheel and take it for a spin, try some skids etc. it should be fine. well, how much can some-one kill a fixie in a few days.

thinking about it, it may be possible that the factory chainwheel isn't round, so check the chain tension at different spots in the circle of the pedal, but that's way outta my control.

So is he refusing to pay or what? If you have the money, forget it!

my only problem is that I've never really ridden fixed either, just was on the fence for a few years. did a nasty conversion job with limited resources and just haven't tried since. so seeing that i'm a bare bones beginner I really can't tell too specifically the shape of the bike, but hopefully he hasn't banged it up too badly since

he's paid and has left good feedback on ebay. just doesn't want it.
emi, do as i said b4, take spanner, re-tension rear- wheel, rotate the chainwheel and check tension in chain, then ride. it's actually an easy and nice bike to ride.

everything looked fine, the chain's really slack but nothing a little adjusting couldn't fix. I was definately a fan, actually was really in to it and especially loved the blue splatter guards, but it's just out of my price range, especially for a temporary ride. any suggestions for picking up a real junker?

Welcome to the bike market! :)
here's the story, i sold a really nice fixed raleigh cruiser that i built up on mon. anyway the guy picked it up on monday night, all sweet etc. i get an e-mail the next morning asking if i happen to have some drops etc for it, replied yes, but then he said he had it sorted. then today i get an e-mail from another guy saying that the bike is for sale again. wtf! anyway, after a bit of investigating, i found he had put it for sale on gumtree the very next day, for less than what he paid. again WTF?! then i just get an e-mail, asking if i want to buy it back (cheaper than what he paid) because the chain keeps falling off and his LBS telling him the back wheel has play in it.
what drugs are these people on. the bike was test ridden and all the bugs sorted out. man i even played bike polo on it for 3-4 hours without problems.
so if you want a pretty nice bike for cheapish see the gumtree ad below. numpty's

he even had the nerve to copy all the info from my ad to his!?
