cyclebasket.com do them for 27.70, but then 6 quid delivery. it all ends up pretty much the same.
-
• #3
yeah checked them, but £6 del stuff that. chainreaction to the rescue. ed, we can have a wheel building afternoon.
-
• #4
oh yes indeed, i need to get some hubs first though... can't wait...
-

I've got a 2nd hand one, laced with SSDB spokes to a slightly knackered CODA freehub. I'd be happy to part with it if the price is right, I'd quite understand if you were after something shinier though :D

get chainreaction to match the cyclebasket price.. I did that for cxp33 rims that were £4 cheaper each on cyclebasket, despite the £6 delivery charge and the fact they didn't have any in stock!

• #7
kinda wish these came unmachined (yeah, i'm a brakeless jerkoff)
-
• #8
same here, but gotta match the rear.
-
• #9
you want the cd anodised version for unmachined
-
• #10
dogsballs same here, but gotta match the rear.
truth. though i hate to think of myself as someone with a completely matching bike or candy bike. i am however in the market for new rims since i may or may not have destroyed velocity aeroheads..

MrSmith you want the cd anodised version for unmachined
Yeah, they're really nice. I've got them. You can still use brakes on them though if you want, unlike unmachined velocity rims.

• #12
yeah, but if i pay £32, i might as well get deep v's unmachined. ooooh.
open pro vs deep v????
-
• #13
Open Pros are lighter. And look better in CD coating ;)
If you go for deep vs, go for 28 spokes. If you go for open pros, go for 32 spokes.
Basically you want to spread the load on the wheel across as many spokes as possible. Two ways of doing this: a) deep aero rim or b) more spokes. No point in doing both, hence deepv+28spokes or box section rim e.g. open pro+32 spokes.
That's what Jobst Brandt says and Sheldon Brown thinks his book is the best (I got it from the library). The argument he gave was pretty convincing from my point of view.

open pro wins

i think people choose rims/wheels more on aesthetics than performance, i would rather have open-pros than deep-v's the aero performance means nothing to me i just want a good strong lightweight rim with good ride 'feel' , i don't want a rim that reminds me of those spinning chrome hubcabs on drugdealers girlfriends cars.

haha
Plus in strong windows and freaky weather (which lets face it, is happening more often) aero rims blow you about a fair bit.
-
• #17
well i've got the goldtec 32H hub already and spokes. Roberto convinced me to go open pro as well. might try the CD coating.
-
• #18
whey!
the CD coating looks sweet with black spokes, instead of silver, I think.

-
• #25
