Bye Bye Bike Parking

  • So, they've canned my temporary 'electrical cupboard' parking spot.
I'm not leaving my good bikes out all day every day, so, unless they come up with another parking solution, I've got to get a shitter or quit.
    I hate the fscking city.

  • Le'Gay.

  • Get a Brompton. That'll teach em.

  • Fixed Brompton? I'll probably fall in love with it and then it'll be nicked..

I'm thinking about AFB (another fkn bike) if worse comes to worst.. something common like a Pompino or plain like a Bareknuckle.
    Insure it.
Then wait/hope for it to get stolen :)

Still annoying if all my good bikes sit at home all week doing nothing :(

  • By "out" do you mean you'd have to lock it up on the street? Or is there a building car park or something that you don't want to risk?

  • I don't lock up outside for more than 10min unless I can see the bike.. it's just my rule and means I don't often lose bikes to the thieving scum here.
Losing the cupboard in the building means I'll have to use one of those already overflowing communal bike areas.
So if I get a spot, the bike will get beat up and the risk of theft goes skyward. Not happy. Paranoid perhaps, but not happy.

  • Would you not be better off insuring yer good bike than buying a shoddy one?

If you have to ride a sh1t bike the thieving scum are one up on yer already.

  • Because insurance covers the cost of the bike but doesn't replace the bike itself.. me and my bikes are like this does the close finger thing

  • When I worked in the west end I kept my bike downstairs in the basement, worked fine for around a year and a half until some officious tosser told me I could not keep the bike in the studio - I locked it up outside with two good locks, it was gone in an hour.

    :(

  • hippy, sounds like time to take that Armstrong out of the box

  • hippy Because insurance covers the cost of the bike but doesn't replace the bike itself.. me and my bikes are like this does the close finger thing

Same for me. My uni hall won't allow bikes inside, and there's only an open air rack. Great. Even if the insurance covers the cost as well, it's the pure hassle of having to rebuild it all again....

leeww When I worked in the west end I kept my bike downstairs in the basement, worked fine for around a year and a half until some officious tosser told me I could not keep the bike in the studio - I locked it up outside with two good locks, it was gone in an hour.

    :(

    Ah man that's sucks :(

  • I once tried to get insurance for my bikes, unfortuatly the firm recognises a 10% depreaciation per year in any bike (from the date it was purchased new).
That means the pay out if my 1987 Harry Hall was stolen would be.....El Zilcho. And I would have got a 10% payout for the 1997 Mercian.
They were asking around £300 for that policy too.

  • That stinks. After two and a half years of leaving my bike indoors at work, I was punted outside because some temp's abandonded lady-bike fell on the cleaner. Can you not have a scout about the office and look for somewhere else to leave your steed?

I managed to get the keys to a delightful metal cage outside the building. Not quite undercover, but not quite out in the open either. My Hard Rock still died, though. Don't leave your bike exposed to the elements. Unless you want to spend spring replacing everything and thumbing through the Yellow Pages for a powder coater.

    Fight the good fight.

  • Well, like I said, I've put it in the stairwell.. but I did ask beforehand and was given a totally shit excuse why I couldn't put it there.
Our building is shit. There is no free space. Actually that's not true, there is a whole empty floor but the wanker upper manglement won't let bikes stay there.

JW: I did that tonight, finally. Not sure I can be bothered collecting bits for it (wanna keep it CHEAP) and mgmt will probably boot me out before I complete the build anyway..

  • Get a Fuji Track

  • andrewleitch86 Get a Fuji Track

Are you saying that my beloved bike is a cheapo piece of sh1t that isn't worth nicking?

  • £20drugdealermountainbikes get stolen so there's not much margin for not being nicked..

  • that's true.
anything can and will get nicked or vandalised.

some fuck messed with my bike the other day.

I take it inside that building now.

    get a london langster?

  • I'd get one of the black older langsters like murtles.. I'd not buy a new one.
    Pompino?

  • No, but thanks for the offer ;D

  • only £150 for the frame

    CRC do em in black

  • £150 for the Lang or the Pomp? CRC?
    The caffeine's obviously worn off..

  • The Pomp - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com - very reliable and good value, if you don't know them already.

  • I found it under "city" bikes.. I'm sold!
Anyone want a Soma and a Raleigh?
