  • So thanks to the lowlife thieves who frequent this forum (and the cowards who tip them on where to steal property), I have built my ultiMALLET.
To my knowledge the first London Bike Polo Mallet to match the standard of what I've seen in NYC - sorry for bragging but I'm excited!!

Here is how it is put together:

    • 1 ski pole (unscrewed the handle + cut about 5cms from the plastic "snowflake" at the bottom)
    • 1 piece of piping (17cms long, slightly curved)
    • Drilled the pipe to let the pole go through, down to the bottom (flush)
    • glued it all with hardcore pink stuff
    • Drilled the whole thing accross
    • forced a screw into it all the way, creating a thread (you can do it with a nut and a bolt too, but i had none)
    • cut the screw
    • put some gaffer tape + glue on the opposite end
    • slid 2 OURYS over
    • taped the bottom of the lower Oury, tennis-style
    • total weight: 350grams
HERE YOU GO - it even matches my bike.

note the use of an inner tube to stick the mallet to the frame - works perfectly

  • pink stuff!!!

  • bien fait.

  • Without appearing too much of a tw@t, why is there a plastic bottle stuck on the back of your bike?

  • Yorgo, that is exquisite!! I love the use of Ourys.... match the front wheel now :-)

  • It's all the rage evilmonkey! And it keeps your bum dry when it rains..

  • nice work! now you need to get a baby blue deep v on the back!

any more of the blue piping floating around?

  • does the handle on those ski poles just unscrew?? I was about to cut mine off - ignore, i just got it off :)

Evilmonkey Without appearing too much of a tw@t, why is there a plastic bottle stuck on the back of your bike?

    It's a sort of mudguard

Glow - i still have some blue tube left

  • dt i still have some blue tube left

There's people in Wardour St who haven't been able to have their electricity fixed.

I hope you're proud of yourself?

    ;-)

  • nice one d, save me some? i want a second attempt.. all my piping disappeared from prototype #1 (a.k.a the ghettoMALLET)

  • stompy There's people in Wardour St who haven't been able to have their electricity fixed.

    thats fucking genius

  • looks good but is that PVC or gaspipe? If its PVC get ready for a world of breakage.

  • it's tough foam I think.

  • nope. Looks like plastic. No idea. Sorry.

  • ImOnCrank looks good but is that PVC or gaspipe? If its PVC get ready for a world of breakage.

It's the gas pipe that was nicked from the building site isn't it?

  • looks wicked.

I need me a polo bike.

  • i don't think the piping is PVC. PVC that you buy in hardware stores is very brittle and tends to shatter (especially in the cold). whereas piping that you find in construction sites is either polyethylene or polyurethane which is stronger and molds rather than shatters.

  • ^^ that's what this piping is indeed.

  • Fucking Nora !

    Just Fucking Nora.

    OMG etc.

  • dt, got any piping left? i fancy some as well :)

  • leeww Fucking Nora !

    Just Fucking Nora.

    OMG etc.

    nora??

  • looks fucking lush! i left my piece of tubing at polo! woops, Dave can you keep piece back for me? i'm coming back early from brighton now for polo, so will be there sunday, could grab it then...

  • better than innertubes and running with ski pole theme, how about these to hold your mallet to your frame?

  • are you going to try it out tonight ??? weather permitting
7pm or earlier if anyone fancies it tonight
