don't worry about toe overlap, it isn't what it's cracked up to be.
genesis flyer is the cheapest option, and they might have sorted out their chainline issues by now. how much is a soma? is that from mosquito?
48:18 for your commute.

Bianchi Pista, 48:18... It's a perfect, plain steel frame with great geometry

you only get the chance to get a first fixie once so id save up for a while then get one of those amazing vintage track bikes from blb, or if you could just get the bianchi pista.

I ride a 30yo Raleigh the most but the Soma feels so much stiffer, faster, so much more like a race bike..
I like steel bikes, sure but I also have no issues with alu bikes, having ridden thousands of k's on them.
There's nothing wrong with 3/32 gearing, why swap it out for 1/8th?
You'll be able to move a bit quicker on a road/track bike so your gearing will increase. How much it will increase from 32/12 is up to you. Spinning = grinning. -

To be honest, I'm leaning towards the Soma although the Genesis is about half the price.
What would I need to change to make the Genesis work? The bars and brake lever is a preference thing, but what about the cog? Can you get 3/32" track cogs?

haven't tried any of them myself but if you'd like to be able to choose exactly what you want the bareknuckle is the way to go. you don't waste time and money swapping out things that you don't want. you just get the frame, choose whatever and put it together.

aren't bareknuckles getting a rep on the forum for catastrophic frame failure? or is that just slander?

they break when you break them, yes.

and so are other frames
Hi
Apologies for being a hipster/accountant/Hoxtonista, but after borrowing my housemate's cousin's Farleigh fixie, I've decided that is what bike number 3 is going to be. Problem is, I've received a lot of conflicting advice on this. Basically, I think that I am going to get one out of the following:
Soma Rush (a basic, fairly low spec build)
AEI Bareknuckle (again, fairly basic)
A Genesis Flyer (3/32" parts replaced with 1/8", plus change the bars and brake lever)
Opinions? I've been told that I should go vintage, but it seems that'll cost me more than the Flyer, plus I'll have to worry about toe overlap. If anyone can offer me insights, I'd be grateful. Other info that might be pertinent:
I'm a guy, I'm 5'11 and reasonably fit. My current bike is a MTB running 32 x 12 (or maybe 11). I spin out on that, so perhaps a longer gear? Generally I'd be using the bike to commute from the Essex Road to Euston.
Advice appreciated. Also, anyone that sees someone tearing down the Essex Road on a 1996 Kona Kiluaea (converted to single speed), say hi.
