Risers, which to get?

I'm thinking about maybe getting risers because I don't really use anything but the tops of the drops. I'll still be keeping the drops but just want to try out risers. Can anyone point me in the right direction of some nice cheap risers.

I'm pretty sure Decathlon do some for about a fiver…

or brick lane, jon got his for £3. just put on a very narrow 35cm (chopped) alloy mtb flat bar on my dawes and it's lovely. thought it would be crap.

Oh yeah that's another thing. Most of the bars I've seen look pretty wide. What's a good width to chop 'em down to?

to whatever is comfortable or more likely where you put your hands on the top of normal bars

You'll probably find it most comfortable to chop them down to the width r your shoulders, keeping your arms in a straight line, wider will give you more control and a lower profile, but less wide than that wlll invert your arms which could hinder balance if going up hills or using in traffic.

nah, traffic the narrower the better ;) , try going through traffic with some downhill bars.

I bought one of those Halfords riser bars today. I needed to replace my decrepit creaking drops, and fancied a change.

It's a bargain, nice and shiny, and the crappy branding comes off with a little silver polish. With grips and a brake, I couldn't chop them any shorter than 50cm, but 50cm feels like a good width for me, anyway, coming from 40cm drops.

I took the new arrangement out for a leisurely ride this afternoon, and found that my bike felt completely different. My riding position was more relaxed, steering was easier, and I felt like I was much more in control. I think I'll keep them!
