What the hell is a Pearson Touche???
-
• #3
ahhhhhhh, looks quite nice.... not really into these bikes with 2 brakes though..... They look like modern road bikes, which are pretty disgusting! You've got a fixed wheel, there's your brake, no need for a Shimano Sora drilled into the back!
-
• #4
well, yeah, but that's how they come. i plan to customise a bit as time goes on.

Touche: not much detail about wheels on site but i know nothing about the alex wheels on the flyer either, isis bb, alu frame (if that matters to you), looks nice, can fit guards, more expensive
Flyer: um, steel, sora brakes (not sure there'd be a lot of diff.), not sure of geo. compared to the 'relaxed' Pearson.
Which one rides better? The Flyer you say. Then you gotta compromise. How much better does it feel? Is the Pearson worth it for the looks and a bit of exclusivity? If it was ONLY those two bikes and it was £150.. I reckon I'd go the Pearson if it felt ok to ride but I don't know how much difference £150 means to your wallet?
If you really do notice a large diff. in handling/comfort then maybe go the Flyer.
But for that amount of cash you could buy an almost unused Soma with Phils n CXP33s (I did :)). So, tough call.If it makes a difference, a fast guy rides a Pearson out my way.. :)

definitely the pearson.
is the pearson the one they customise for you at no extra cost, or am i thinking about something else?
-
• #7
jon: bah! modern road bikes are lovely! I'm keeping the rear on the Soma to make it more roadie! :P

A colleague of mine rides a Touche and really rates it (and the stock parts seem ok too), whereas there seems to be a recurring theme of chinline jiggery-pokery needed when setting Flyers up fixed.
-
• #9
personally I'd go for the pearson, looks do matter and to my eyes it a whole load more interesting to look at then the genesis.
agree with hippy though if the 150 squid puts too big a hole in the wallet go genesis. -

Get a Condor
-
• #11
cheers guys.
well, yeah, i mean i thought the brakes on the Pearson seemed a bit cheap, given the price, and as i say, it's extra for a carbon seatpost etc etc. The flyer is 499 list price, but you can get deals on the net of course, which you can't with the pearson.
Yeah, the Flyer chainline issue is a concern, certainly.
They don't customise the Pearson free, Dogsballs, but because it's a bike shop who are just getting frames made, you can have anything you want on it, but they do charge - a few tweaks and you're well over 600.
There's a REVIEW of the Pearson here -rates it, but does say the wheels are a bit shit.

jonaent (Jon) Get a Condor
this is true, fact is for another 99 quid or so, i could get a Condor.
-
• #13
take about ten years for them to build it though.
-
• #14
The Flyer's on sale at Cycle Surgery. Not sure how much and if it's better than the deal you've found though.
Personally I'd not bother with either. I just think for £500 - £600 you could get a lot better as far as a decent 'original' fixed / track bike goes. Buying an 'off the peg' and then having to do quite a bit of alteration and swapping of parts seems a bit much. Especially on a £600 bike!Build or have one built I reckon. My tuppence worth...

Yeah, I'd get a Condor. I had one of their catalogues in the post the other day (the PDFs won't open properly on my mac) and they look nicccce. I wish I bought one instead of my current bike.

Flyer is £399 at Cycle Surgery now.

well, i don't want to build right now, i want to buy off the peg and customise later on, not for a while.
i have narrowed it down to those 2 really, as fitting the bduget and my taste.

Todd Flyer is £399 at Cycle Surgery now.

I'd say consider the Condor, but yeah I imagine it will take a while to build...otherwise I would go for the Pearson, cause as Cornelius says, it just looks tastier...I don't think I have ever seen one, but I have seen quite a few of those Genesis bikes...yeah, looking at the pics and not having ridden either or not considering the cash, it has to be the Pearson...

Cool. Might be worth checking the Condor though.
The flyer and the pearson are definitely amongst the best off the pegs I've seen.
Reckon it might be down to the overall cost. Quite a big difference in price.
Who knows how much is the Condor? -
• #21
condor is 699 for the basic spec, isn't it?
again, a jump, and as has been said above, it'll be 5 weeks to build.
-
• #22
...now I see why you can't quite decide! ;-)
-
• #23
yeah. it's a knotty one.
I love the condor pista, but i know too many people who have them already, i'd feel like a copycat, and it's a bit more than i should be spending, and they'll take forever to build the fucker. But i would like one. hmm.

• #24
buy the frame and I'll build the rest up for you in a fucking day.
not for free, mind

Now there's an offer!
Pearson Touche or Genesis Flyer.
Been to see both these bikes, and they're both nice. The Pearson i like cos it's a little more different, and because it's light, but with the carbon seatpost and decent tyres, it comes out at 590-600 quid. quite a lot. it's been very well reviewed, though. The frame is beautifully made, it really is.
Is the spec really up to that price, i'm wondering? opinions welcome.
The Flyer -i think i prefer the ride of the steel frame, and it feels good to me, it;s a nice bike. But, you know, it's yet another Flyer. However, i can get it for 432 quid delivered, so quite a price difference.
So, Hippy et al, do you think the Pearson is worth the extra 150 or so quid?
