It's beautiful, you can swim in the middle of the city (there's a beach there and everything).
Swedish girls ARE amazing, but they're mad as lorries.
It's expensive, but everyone's pretty happy and the city is super clean

samsonite - that beach thing sounds cool...

It is... You sit there chilling, looking at beautiful girls and watching fucking great big cruise ships coming through...
When I say 'beach' don't expect miles and miles of expansive sands, it's more of a 5m deep strip that stretches around part of the bay.

I can't 100% remember whether this is the place, but as I remember, it's pretty close to the city centre... It was a while ago...

Yeah, most people go to one of the beaches on Långholmen. An island in the middle of the city.
I'm Swedeish and the last time i went, two weeks back, i only spotted 4 fixies in a week but a lot of people are talking about them so it seems to be an up and coming thing.this guy: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pawls/ is one of the few fixe Stockholm people i've found.

Give me a ring or email me when you are here, I worked as a courier in London and live and skid in Stockholm. The weather is total shit but who cares right. I can get some of the fixed kids together or somethin'

Sorry to dig up this thread, but im heading to Stockholm at the end of October.
Anyone of you guys been there? Should I bring my bike? Do people have experience bringing their bike with ryanair?
suggestions as to where to stay? Would renting an apartment be cheaper than a hostel? There's 5 of us going.
would appreciate any advice people can give. things to do, shops, restos, bars, etc.
cheers.

I've taken my bike on a Ryanair flight just not to Stockholm. Book the bike in before hand and stuff all your other kit into the bike bag so you don't need to check in any other luggage. I managed to fit two bikes into one bike bag so saved on baggage in that way as well.

We went last year and stayed in the Rygerfjord boat hostel. Was slightly ropey but fairly cheap (about £30 I think). Fortunately I didn't have to stay there as met an impressionable young local girl at Debaser which is a pretty cool indie type bar. Just an excuse to shoehorn that story in obviously but sure I'll go back there next time I visit. The place didn't seem to work out much more expensive than london generally. Didn't have my bike but it would be a brilliant place to ride

Took my bike over a couple of years ago via Ryanair. I flew to Stockholm Skavsta which of course is nowhere near Stockholm but in Nyköping a hundred km South. But it's in the direction that I needed to go.
Ryanair have restrictions on the size of the container so I got an old bike box from my LBS and cut it smaller then took my bike to bits and packed it all up. When I was seated comfortably on the plane I looked out of the window to see that they were tossing my box onto the trolley with the bags and upside down when I had clearly marked "This way up".
They are fleece merchants so be warned about excess and hidden charges. At that time it was only £15. I think it's more now as they are charging for check-in.
I managed to get it there in one piece without any damage to the bike. But the journey for the bike was only one way thankfully and it now resides at my cottage near Vimmerby. Riding fixed in the zero traffic country lanes of Sweden, now that is nice. Back again this weekend.

The only recommendation I ever make for Stockholm is Bakfickan (translates as 'back pocket'), a tiny brasserie at the side of the opera house. A single room with a bar you can sit at, with great atmosphere and absolutely delicious Swedish meatballs:

Stockholm city bikes are good for getting around on, they were pretty cheap and easy to set yourself up with last time I was in Stockholm (2011). There's an office in the station at Slussen where you can get ticket/card things for them. You'll need some form of ID.
Östermalms Saluhall is good for foodiness. Pelikan restaurant in Sodermalm was a good feed too as was this place.
Go and see the Vasa - bloody great big old warship that sank on its maiden voyage. -

the Vasa museum is great - also really enjoyed the free walking tours when I was there
Just curious if anyone knows of any fixed/track/bike related fun stuff to check out in Stockholm? I'm going soon and trying to figure out stuff to have a look for when I get there.
Oh if there's anything non-bike related people want to share about the place - please do!
