Rear brake

  • I'm planning on ordering some new brakes, and am not sure whether to order a rear or not. I'm not interested in whether it's "needed" not, just if anyone has found it's a pain in the arse to adjust since when you move the rear wheel the brake shoes become unaligned.

I'm not sure if it'd be that big a problem anyway, since I used a chain tug.

  • Whe I rode bmx I had a rear brake. BMX bikes have trackends. I never really had to adjust my rear brake blocks.

  • took mine off after the Bridges ride and havent missed it yet. Tricky getting the lever re-sprung, but got it in the end.

  • Adjusting brake shoes is easy as sunday morning. Why are you moving the rear wheel, I'm not sure I understand?

  • I was just pondering earlier this afternoon that because of the tracks ends, the wheel can move about relative to the frame, therefore making the brake blocks out of line.

:) Perhaps I'm thinking things through too much.

  • You and I and everyone here knows it's not "needed". Get skidding! ;-p

    xx

  • haha :)

I can do skids no problem on grass.... but on the road, I just can't do it! I lock out my legs and I just rise up into the air as the crank rotates around, haha.

  • Lean forward as you lock your legs and watch your tyres go bye bye...

  • lol watch some videos and copy!

  • also practise in the rain (no shortage of that!) on the smoothest asphalt you can find. nuts to the stem! then, order new tires and repeat

  • hamster also practise in the rain (no shortage of that!) on the smoothest asphalt you can find.

Yeah, I've been doing it in the rain quite a bit. Well, trying to!

    nuts to the stem!

I don't like the idea of that bit! :P

hippy Lean forward as you lock your legs and watch your tyres go bye bye...

I'll give the advice a go tomorrow morning on my ride to work :)

  • You'll get the hang of it

  • why would you want to?

  • i got a bmx lever to replace the racing brakes, got them all off and realised the thing dont fit. rode to work brakeless today and have to ride it home. took it very easy as i havent even attempted skidding yet.
    will be fixed tonight.
