I've just changed the site's IP address and given it a static IP address. Using the HOSTS file entry the firewall will see you go to an IP address and not a URL and as that's meaningless to it, you'll get through.

Of course, the side-effect of my assigning a static IP address is that now we have to wait until people's DNS is flushed again.

Er, no.

The server move does physically change the IP address. It's a bit like moving home, your address really does change. The domain name is the forwarding service... the domain name stays the same no matter where you are but the IP address changes.

Have you read the other thread in which methods to avoid being blocked are discussed?

Try changing the hosts file to the new ip address
