Anyone have experience of Vaz Finishers?
Would you recommend?

moderator: is there a way to have FAQs have their own section (e.g., resprays, french threading, appropriate frame size for rider)? or does that just take the fun out of it?

i've never used him. he got mixed reviews in the past, but i guess it depends on what you're after. i dunno... if it was me, and if i didn't have lugs, i'd just save and shell out for a powdercoat.

The problem with FAQ's is that the people asking the question seldom check them before asking.
Best thing is to have really descriptive thread titles, and then encourage people to search.

Waiting to pick my frame up from Armortex, heard decent reviews off here, will let you know when I pick it up?
Hopefully tomorrow? -

rich and wayne have had their frames done recently by vaz and supposedly think they are ok.

I am picking up my frame from Vaz Finishers tomorrow - can post some pictures as a reference if its of any use (maybe in a previous thread?). The anticipation is a killer!
For what its worth I've found him really accomodating, particularly of indecision about colours, and a pleasure to deal with. He's clearly had years in the business of spraying frames, specifically stove enamelling, and runs a small 'cottage' type of operation - but this is all a matter of record anyway and I guess his work needs to speak for itself!

can't comment on vaz as my frame was done at mercian - oop north,
but they did a lovely job with the pearl finish

That would be cool, just post it in this thread, it would be great to see a few examples from both VAZ and Armortex - don't forget the close ups.
:)

Hmmm... I have looked at Mercian and Argos - but shipping etc would put the price at double of what it will cost me to get over to Vaz at Hither Green and get it done there...
Maybe that is a false economy.

oops sorry wayne, me bad!

Where's Mercian? I've got a Fuji Track and the paint job just pisses me off. I'm "oop north" so that might be a good place for me to get it sprayed.

mercian are in Derby
60 notes for a plain strip and spray
80 notes for pearl or flamboyant finishesmoney well spent - no runs or drips and it seems a pretty robust finish

No problem. Can't resist a lingering close up...
As a reference cf. Mercian, Vaz charge £50 for a basic strip, prime, spray and laquer (all baked on)...add 5 for pearlescent laquer and another 5 for metallics...

that finish looks 10x better than the one that rich has on his from vaz and he was saying it's chipping already.

four weeks wait for a mercian spray tho...
crm2943
I'd wait and see what Vaz's finish is like -
some people have been really happy with his work, could be he has 'good' days and 'bad' days and you get a 'good day' finish -
• #24
yeah what he said. if its for just a fuji, vaz would be fine. it wasn't that bad, just not a factory spray ie mercian

Ha! Cheers for the encouragement...like a kid on Christmas eve at the moment. To be honest, I never had hugely high expectations, for 50 sheets and a one week turnaround, I am realistic...frame is well used and second hand anyway, so investing in a factory spray would be turd polishing of the highest order!
Hi all, thought i'd introduce myself.
did a search for this topic but nothing came up
I know about argos but was wondering if anyone could recommend a place that does good resprays in London.
cheers
