aidan i just this second bought a:
Abus Granit Steel O Flex 1000 80cm Cable LockI've got the same lock - it has successfully withstood two known theft attempts (ably assisted by me bellowing like an enraged Goose...) and acted as armour in a couple of crashes. Even though its a bit mangled, its still going strong...good'un.

get one of these puppies, the 85 cm one fits around your waist.
I've got a Kryptonite New York 3000 too, but I never use it because it weighs more than my bike does and it's a pain in the arse to carry.

cheers gonna pop out at lunch to havea look at them both .ta.

Me too. It does weigh a lot, but it's a decent lock.
I leave mine locked to a metal pipe in work and just pick it up every morning and drop it off when I leave. I used to carry it home but it was actually taking me quite a few minutes longer each way!

but some cunning thief could spend all night cutting through the lock and then when you get there you are fucked..

I would like to lock my bike to a flimsy gas pipe, thief thinks he can just cut though the pipe, spark from cutting and bang!

glow
but some cunning thief could spend all night cutting through the lock and then when you get there you are fucked..possible, but not plausible :) this is a parking garage in a building where you'd need a security card to get in.. Lots of people here just leave their bikes leaning against the wall, but I don't trust humanity that much.

Unlikely! :) You have to get through the shopping centres entrance doors, then security gates within the shopping centre, through the front door of the shop (metal and plastic shutter thing), shop alarm, stock room security door, and then break through my krypto lock! You can give it a try though if you fancy, haha :)

scott not scot if i'm reading this right...you only leave your lock overnight right...not your bike?
if that's the case....why would any bike thief want to spend all night cutting through a lock with no bike in it???.....cos the lock aint no use to him after he's cut it!yeah, you are reading it right.. one possible explanation would be that I might get there and think "oh well, someone fkuced my lock.. I'll just lean the bike against the wall instead". The thief could then proceed to leap out of his hole and happily ride away in his new steed!
:D

I've got one of those Abus locks, but I need to get a d lock, too...
Can anyone tell me if the 'Fahfuckssakehowsitspelled?' is big enough to lock wheel and frame to something solid, or is better to get one of the 3000's for that?
Ta...
going to buy a new lock at luch, any one got good bad reviews.
looking at the Kryptonite New York 3000 Lock and a loop to go through bothwheels
