• I stupidly took a file to the pivot on my front brake (see other posting for why! :-/) so now need to replace it, or at least the part of it I've damaged.

Does anyone happen to have a Dia-Compe BRS Radius 400 front brake suitable for parts anywhere?! If so, I'd be very grateful.

    Cheers,

    Simon

  • Which bit have you damaged? I've got a box of old brake arms in the workshop, I know some are dia-compes, don't know if any are this particular model. How old/current is it and is it a single or dual pivot brake and long or short reach? Failing that are you running a rear brake as well or do you just need a front caliper, I've got a couple knocking around that are serviceable but not particularly sexy, so don't have sufficient value to stick on ebay etc.Might not be able to dig them out before next weekend but if you can wait that long I work in the West End and if you can get in to collect them you'd welcome to one (or a pair if you needed them).

  • Thanks polybikeuser, that's very kind of you. It's a single-pivot brake from a 1988-ish Condor, which looks like this:

It has "Dia-Compe BRS Radius" written on the front, and "400" engraved on the back.
The bit I've damaged looks like this:

This part might well be shared by other Dia-Compe brakes of the same era, I guess.
If you could have a look and see if you have one of these I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks,
    Simon

  • Well I managed to sort this totally thanks to Barreg Cycles in Fishbourne - a proper old school cycle shop - who found a new-old-stock pair of brakes with perfectly matched pivots I could salvage, which they sold me for £8. I did the back brake too while I was at it, so I now have lovely shiny alloy pivots, all new nylon washers and some lovely smooth brakin' action. :-) Well chuffed.

  • result! can't beat the old school shops. they have tins of everything!
