Hozan lockring wrench (C-205) - job done. Its a quality tool and I've beaten the bejesus out of mine and its going strong (handles BB lockrings ok too).
If you want to be so nice that its hurts, then the Hozan lockring pliars (C-203) are the greatest. Haven't used it on a BB lockring though, so it might be pony for that.

I'm planning to make my own lockring pliers. I've got a cheap pair of water pump pliers I got for £2, and I'm going to cut and file the jaws so it fits the notches on my lockring, should save myself £18 :-)

Looking at those pliers, wouldn't you be able to get more leverage out of the DA lockring tool (where you're not gripping the pliers AND turning them)?

I think leverage is not a problem, the problem with the C type tools is the tool slipping out of the lockring. When you're using a tool you have to grip the handle(s) anyway

managed to find a Hozan tool from Ceeway Bike Building Supplies...presuming they come through with the goods, hopefully won't need the generous help of others presuming it arrives before Thursday. Thanks for your offers
can anyone recommend me a good lockring tool/c-spanner?
one that fits pretty much all lockrings including the sprocket one and the bottom bracket one? and where to get it?
went to brixton cycles they only stock the dura ace one and they're out of stock...
