i wouldn't mind building my own bike. i could mitre the tubes myself and would get my old man to weld/braze (he was a welding demonstrator and still has tig and gas equipment) the only thing stopping me is time and getting a jig sorted.
the dave yates course sounds good, from what i hear people are usually really pleased with the results.

If you feel like a nice trip, United Bike Institute has loads of frame building classes. They're located in Oregon, USA.
Its a cracking place and the frame shop is really good.
They claim that you can do the course with no welding experience. But folks I've known do it without welding experience struggled a little as theres just so much to take on.
Just thought I'd throw this into the mix as well.

just thought I'd bring this back.. :)
yamaguchi also has a frame building course that looks pretty good.. slightly cheaper than UBI as well and not that much more expensive than dave yates, for twice the length. Of course you'd have to pay for flights and all that..
It does sound really cool, if I was going to pay £800 for a custom frame, I'd rather pay a little bit more and build it myself :D

Brick lane bikes have loads and for reasonable prices too (as well as 14).. what color are you looking for ?? and how much do you want to spend?
(I know someone you know that could sort you out ;-) -
• #15
Heck! I'll even get them for you....!!
I'm just curious as to exactly what color you have in mind....??? lol -

How on earth did you pick this thread to ask about coloured cranksets?
How the hell could you not find them on your own searching powers?
Andd...and...(sits down looking totally flumoxed)

Poor bastard must be so worried about getting flamed for starting a thread without using TFS he's got on this one. Personally, I think what we need right now is a coloured crank thread.

anyway, framebuilding
Book now if you want to do a course. Dave Yates has a two year waiting list

+1 thought I must be drunk.

save the cash, do a part time fabricating and welding course. Buy your own welding/brazing gear and get practicing.
Then sell the shit frames on ebay with "ideal fixie/single speed" in the title

Hey you lot, this thread died two year ago...let it rest. The dude has already built his bike and half of it's paint has chipped off. That's my guess.

I know! That's why I'm so confused!
I'm kind of impressed by his incompetence
On september 13th I will make my final mortgage payment. Woo Hoo! So I am going to take a brake from work and indulge myself. I want to gain some new skills. So...Does anyone know where I can learn to fabricate my own frame? I can weld ok'ish but would like to know the finer details.
