  • In case any of you want to warm up for your night-ride, or stretch some different muscles, I'm setting off from Gloucester Gate at 9am on Saturday morning for a few hills. At least one ascent of Highgate West, Muswell Hill, and Swains Lane, with optional Holly Lodge, Wood Rise, Cranleigh Gardens, Wolsey Road/Shepherds Hill/Jacksons Lane, Cressida Road. The first one of the day is always a bit uncomfortable, but all good fun after that ;-)

I think lpg is coming. Brett and me did something similar a while back. Won't be more than a couple of hours, cos I've got to be home middayish.

So if you want to do some pre-emptive emulation of your TdF mountain goats, I'll see you there, 46x17 FYI.

  • thats my stomping ground
    sounds like hard work though

  • Fixed and a positive mental attitude to altitude, init. Piss of piece.

  • Bootiful - I'll be there cos I desparately need it. Been injured for the first half of this week after my prologue crash shame, and need to stick the miles in before Dunwich. Allez allez!

  • Hmm.. could be useful. It's in the calendar..

  • hmm...could be suicidal, i'd come but i'm planning to lace my wheel on saturday

  • I'm planning a fork swap - you can ride 'unicycle' style and i'll wheelie the whole ride. Sorted!

  • I thought fettling the night or morning before a ride always ends in disaster?

Mind you, I'm the type of analist who moans for 30 miles on a clubrun until I stop and push my saddle back by 1.25mm, and then I'm a happy bunny again.

  • BringMeMyFix I'm the type of analist who moans until I stop and push my saddle back

Kinky ;) I might see if I can leaveski earlyski tonightski and pick up the fork and maybe some spacers. Won't be able to cut steerer though.
Maybe just ride the Raleigh. Stupid bike work. Need a house-calling mechanic..

Actually, can I just sleep in and imagine i'm riding?

  • i got a hacksaw hip, did mine last week, welcome to use it.

  • Cheers mate!
I might invest in a sh1tload of spacers first to see if I wanna bring the bars up higher. It's a small frame ya know.

Or just fit an M-type Brompton bar. That'd look WELL cool, honest.

  • No rain forecast, despite the general grimness at 8am. SW tailwind to push people up the top of Highgate West :-0

  • Pass. Cafe then off to the shop to see if I can get the Soma sorted for DD. Next time guys.

  • Ok, fork off then.

  • Hope you've still got legs for the bridges ride, Brett.

Only enough strength left in mine to pace up and down with the baby round about the time you lot reach Primrose Hill.

  • where did you two end up going? I was going to come but i had stuff to do..

  • Hills, lots of them!
Dartmouth Park, Muswell, down Highgate West, up Swains, back to Crouch End, up Cranleigh Gardens, then across and up Holly Lodge followed by one near archway whose name I've forgotten. Fell asleep this afternoon, now I have to wake myself up for some lovely flat bridges. Might start with a trip to the boozer.
BMMF: cheers for that, good training fun!

  • brett one near archway whose name I've forgotten.

    Cressida Road. Short but sweet/steep.

  • I've not heard of a single one of those places.. except Crouch End - wasn't some dodgy horror movie set there? Any plans to do this again? Say, next Sat? (C'arn! Ya know you want to!)

  • They filmed "Shaun of the Dead" round there. And of course numerous car chases from "The Professionals" had sections filmed in the area.

Yeah, maybe next Saturday. My parents are visiting from Spain (to see grandson), but if I'm back here by 11ish like today, it should be fine.

    Watch this space...

  • Ok, Saturday's looking lovely so we're going again.
Any brave North London types (or anyone else who fancies making it along for that matter) fancy some nice big hills tomorrow morning? It'll be fun, although I'll be desparately flailing around in BringMeMyFix's wake.
Meet 9am Gloucester Gate, Regents Park, and we'll work a route out from there.
    Anyone?!

  • Hills? This is London we're talking about innit? ;)
