my mates a courier and he just uses one of those minis taped up to protect the tape work. ideally i'd have one of those on the front wheel with a new york noose through the back wheel and frame. No ones getting through the noose with bolt cutters, an angle grinder maybe. i know d -ocks are susceptible to prising tools and i've heard rumours some can be drilled straight through the lock.

I think the brackets are crap too, I just carry the lock in my bag.
I have the NY3000, I pulled off the silver mount bracket, makes the lock look better and is one less thing to do-in your paint job. It was easy to do, like your meant to be able to do it.
Can you move the silver bit off the Evo Mini? looks like an allen key hole on it. But in the open pic, I see the shackle has a wider ring on it, so it couldn't slide off.
Does that make sense?P.S. The anti theft offer is pure crap, When I read the small print on mine it made no sense. You need to return the bust lock to get it or something and no thieving git will leave that, as evidence.

the silver bit can slide off fine on the mini aswell - the wider shackle bit you can see is just a rubber washer type thing. I also removed all the pointless rubber/plastic junk from the lock barrell on mine.

sliver thing comes off no problem

Yeah, the fahgettaboudit u lock looks the best. The strength of the NY 3000 but the small size of the mini so no one can get any tools in. When I move to London at the end of September I'll be buying one to replace the Evolutiono Mini. I would have bought it straight away, but a little short of cash at the moment.
But as I said the E. Mini is still great for cafes etc.
scott not scot looks a nice lil lock.....but i'm just super paranoid...i cant really afford to insure my bikes...so i worry when i see the numbers on the front of krypto packets...if it don't say '12' in the security rating....i don't trust it.....i'd rather carry the extra weight of my fug chain and fug u-lock.....especially if you're locking it all day in the city!
why not find a homeless drunk in a doorway and lock it to his leg?.....they sleep all day anyway, and if you're quiet...he won't even know!i'm really paranoid too! My mates think I'm absolutely mental, haha. Any potential thieft will just see my bike and think "no way" and move on to the next bike with a pathetic cable lock that looks like I could break with my bare hands.
Tommo
P.S. The anti theft offer is pure crap, When I read the small print on mine it made no sense. You need to return the bust lock to get it or something and no thieving git will leave that, as evidence.I did email them basically saying "Wtf??!" to them about that and I'm pretty sure that they said you can send them a key/receipt instead, if the thief took the lock. I'll look for it or email again.

blimey. that's really cheap, the mini is only £26. Meh, I paid £34.99 but I needed it by tomorrow (bus ticket expires!) and Wiggle deliver incredibly fast.

One of those £26 mini U's might be better for locking my bike up in the cupboard here.
Save me carrying the bigger U-lock in every day. Are the Fugedd minis really £30 better? -

i like my mini krypto evo, does the job

It's only good for freelocking right? It wont go around wheel, frame AND pole will it?
-
• #15
rear stays, wheel and railing
-
• #16
That'll be enough. At the moment I'm freelocking in another building's cupboard.
I can't watch it but I'm hoping that the fact it's locked, mostly outta sight and in a card-swipe access area should prevent it going bye bye. -

tie a piece of string to it and the other end to your big toe, that way if anyone trys to move it you will feel a tug.
-

Too feckin' late now. Just ordered one of the Krypto minis.
Soon I wont have to carry a lock again! Yeeeees!! -

TheBrick(Tommy) tie a piece of string to it and the other end to your big toe, that way if anyone trys to move it you will feel a tug.
How long will the piece of string need to be?
-
• #20
twice as long as half a piece of string of course.

hippy Are the Fugedd minis really £30 better?
If you're leaving it for several hours, yeah, I definitely think so. For a few min or as a secondary lock they're super.
I'm glad someone found this useful! :)

Now, undoubtedly many of you here will have a Kryptonite Evolution Mini already, but before I bought mine I couldn't find a single review online. Also, there hasn't been a "proper" review on here yet so I thought I'll write one! The pictures aren't that great I'm afraid - they were taken on my Sony Ericsson phone.
Why did I buy the Kryptonite Evolution Mini? Well, I've recently got a new summer job and my employer won't let me put my bike out the back of the shop (even thought there is plenty of space to do so safely!). This means I've got to leave it in the town centre's bike racks... I've already got a Kryptonite New York 3000, but I wanted something extra so that they couldn't twist my bike, or nick my front wheel. Plus two locks are always better than one.
Why not a chain? Chains are rubbish, I think. Admittedly they have the advantage over u-locks of being able to lock to larger objects. But, they weigh loads, and with a decent enough pair of bolt croppers you can get through them. A decent chain was £80 upwards, whereas the Mini was only £34.99 including postage from Wiggle.
So, here's the lock straight out of the box...
And inside the little cardboard box thing, you'll find the mounting bracket, one lighted key, two normal keys and an allen key attach the bracket to your bike. There's also the manual, bracket mounting instructions and anti-theft offer paperwork for upto £900.
The end of the shackle, here. One thing I did notice is that the keyhole is relatively shallow, compared to my New York 3000. Whether or not that means it'll be easier to pick, I don't know. But as I said, I'm only using this as a secondary lock so even if they do pick this they've still got to break the other one.
The black plastic thing rotates round to cover the keyhole. Nice and simple.
What surprised me was the way the lock has a curved bit that goes into the shackle, as I had never seen anything like that before. Perhaps it makes it more difficult to break open? I don't know.
It is really quite small, in comparison to the NY 3000. It's loads lighter too. There's no way you would want the NY 3000 in your back pocket but the Mini would be absolutely fine. The Mini is a lot thinner, as you can see in the photo.
Another size comparison picture.
So my first impressions? It's definitely a nice size for securing your front wheel when you're leaving your bike for a long time, or for locking up your bike outside the cafe whilst you have a quick drink, go to the toilet and so on. I definitely wouldn't use it alone for locking up my bike all day though. It does seem, to me anyway, to be no where near as tough as the NY 3000, which, to be fair, is to be expected.
Fiddling about with it I've noticed that when you want to lock it up you have to pull the cross bar on quite tight so that the locks engage fully before you turn the key, a bit tricky at first but it's not a major fault or anything.
The bracket is also quite tight attaching to the lock. It clips on to the silver thing on the lock. I haven't even bothered attaching it to my bike because I think they look awful and I don't want my paint work marked (it does come with a rubber shim, though).
Overall, I'm quite pleased. Not bad for £35... I think I'll be investing in some pitlocks next because I'm paranoid someone is going to nick my forks now....
