A lot of us build these machines from the ground up, and ride them every day - it's not like one goes to a shop and buys something just because some guys hanging around shoreditch have it!! If anything, it's the other way round with fixed gear riding. A lot of the guys on here are 'cyclists', riding road frames and touring over large distances that are drawn towards fixed riding for training etc.
There is also the fact that a large majority of users here ride the long ride, 50miles+, quite often. It's not just a case of riding for 1 minute with your pink frame and aubergine Deep Vs and then standing outside Brick Lane Gallery all night with it!! I'm sure there are other websites for that.... MySpace perhaps.

lol, is it CM this Friday??? cool.... Do you think the weather will hold off for a Polo on Sunday??? Also, and I'll be putting this out more publicly but there is a big party on sunday night for Brick Lane Bike's 1year birthday party.... It's in a club right next to Polo, just on Bethnal Green Road.... would be perfect if weather holds to play Polo then go to the party

yo, i ride a unique frame, i'm not gonna go for that vintage look that seems to be so trendy right now, i'm not gonna fit a brooks pro saddle on it, and i'm not gonna have new rave velocitys.
Fixed gear urban riding has created a new community not a uniform.
As far as I'm concerned it's nobody's place to judge noone so i will never really care what some guy i've never met before in my life thinks of me, what i do and like.
Although the fact that riding fixed is at the edge of cool right now is denting my pride a bit, but i'll get over it. -

Stef Fixed gear urban riding has created a new community not a uniform.
can't sum it up better than you do stef.
and i'm assuming that a lot of us here don't just ride fixed. a lot of us here have 3+ bikes (count ourselves lucky) fg ss road mtb bmx whatever, do different types of riding, ride everyday, ride to work, ride everywhere.
i know a guy who bought a fix but still takes the tube to go to work, spend more free time on his xbox than on the saddle. none of this type on here i'm sure.
hope the weather's going to be good this coming weekend! we've got CM, saturday night ride & bike polo! god bless our knees/legs + wrists(slow CM riding).

you said it, i saw some guy walking a pursuite chromed roberts twice in shoreditch, the first time he walked into BricklaneBikes and the second time he was walking along on courtain road...never seen him riding around, and the camo top tube pad suggested that it wasn't a track ride...good on him for scoring that bike tho.

You know what I mean !

this sort of reminds me of the chifg imploding thing...
hey leeww, come down on friday let's ride together and be friends! -

I'll bite my tongue, I think the creators of this forum are aspiring to something better than a flame-pit and I respect that.
But on the subject of normatives and conformity, I don't think we are there quite yet.
Apropos spoke cards: When I was riding in Alley-Cats they didn't yet give them out and why shouldn't people be able to make their own anyhow? If it signposts some thing unique about them, albeit within the context of FG/SS what is the problem?

I think it's fairly easy to to tell who's in it for the fashionista points and who has made an informed decision.
I personally believe it's a good thing.
Firstly, and has been noted in similar threads, it's bums on seats. And some of those bums may end up here.
Also, the market is driving the availability of fixed/ss kit and giving us all more choice.
And once the next big thing is three-wheeled skateboards or 27 speed bmxs there'll be tons of barely-used fixed kit on eBay ;-)

The non-uniform is the uniform!
Woah.
Seriously though, club rides in matching lycra, now there's uniform. Call the style police! MEN IN TIGHTS!

We're all individuals and we all ride fixed to prove it!
-
• #17
I'm an individual... just like everyone else.

i like the cards idea cause it gives me an reason to shout at riders in the street, ie people i dont know i know from the fourm

I think we should forget the spoke card idea and have londonfgss streamers off the seatpost.

Jon whats the sunday night club thing?

Ha. I was identified at the nocturne by my previously advertised warm can of stella. I might keep one with me at all times, just in case.

I want a flag pole with a triangular pennant like what used to come with childrens bikes.
It all look good, I love the aesthetic/attitude (crucify me individually for each revelation/missuse of language) - but do you all not think you have all simply fallen for another uniform ? . . . to the point where technical details are preordained ? - this is almost something I can accept, but when you start sticking cards in you wheels I kind of feel it is all a little bit of a parade.
?
Of course I might be wrong.
